Nicosia, Aug 4 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Green Party has protested to US President
Bill Clinton against nuclear proliferation.
A letter addressed to President Clinton was handed over at the US embassy
in Nicosia today by a delegation of the Ecological and Environmental
Movemvent, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the atomic bombing in
Hiroshima.

[02] Pilgrimage - Visit - Cancelled
Nicosia, Aug 4 (CNA) -- The refusal of the Turkish occupation army to move
back to its original positions in the village of Strovilia and restore the
status quo in the area has led to the cancellation of two visits by Greek
and Turkish Cypriots to different venues.
A planned pilgrimage by 1,193 Greek Cypriots to the Turkish-occupied
monastery of Apostolos (St) Andreas, scheduled for 15 August, which is a
very important religious feast in the Greek Orthodox calendar, has been
cancelled, Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Takis Christopoulos told CNA
today.

[03] President Clerides - UN envoy - Meeting
by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Aug 4 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has
said the Greek Cypriot side discusses and analyses its positions at the UN-
led proximity talks, which conclude here today and are scheduled to resume
on 12 September in New York.
Speaking to the press after a 35-minute meeting with UN Secretary General's
Special Adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, he said "our side is discussing
and analyses our positions."

[04] UN talks - Dentkash - De Soto
by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Aug 4 (CNA) -- Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf
Dentkash has said he is satisfied that he has put forward his positions
during the two weeks of UN-led peace talks, which concluded here today, and
expressed hope that they have been understood.
Denktash also said he returns to Turkish occupied Cyprus to reflect and
assess the situation that has emerged from this phase of the talks, noting
the UN have not presented any new proposals at the negotiating table where
everything was under discussion.
