[05] Turkish Cypriot daily - Reactions

London, Jul 14 (CNA) - The National Union of Journalists, representing 30, 000 members in Britain and Ireland, in a letter to the illegal regime in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus expresses its grave concern over the ilegal "arrest" of four journalists of Turkish Cypriot daily "Avrupa".

In its letter, the Union notes its concern over the fact that the illegal regime in the Turkish-occpupied northern part of the island cannot tolerate a free press as well as the fact that its so-called "police" are controlled by the Turkish military, pointing out that Turkey has "one of the worst records of abusing journalists and press freedom in the entire world".
