Geneva, 7 Jul (CNA) – Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides met here Friday
for nearly two hours with UN Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto,
following today/s announcement that the UN- sponsored peace talks will be
adjourned on 12 July.
Asked by reporters if the Greek Cypriot side agrees with the new schedule
of the talks, Clerides replied positively, while to a question if it will
produce results, he gave the same reply.

by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 7 (CNA) -- The adjournment of the UN-led
Cyprus proximity talks in Geneva on July 12 was proposed by the Greek
Cypriot side due to some political developments expected to be made known
when the time is right, according to sources.
Diplomatic sources in Geneva, which are following the talks that opened
July 5, said that in this phase of talks the two sides are presenting the
"homework" they were asked to do and replying to UN questions on their
positions, and will come to an end on July 12.

[03] UN - de Soto – Cyprus - Proximity talks
By Myria Antoniadou Geneva, July 7 (CNA) -- The UN Secretary General's
Special Adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto today said some views or ideas
may be given to President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf
Denktash "at the appropriate time", but notes that whether or not they will
be given before the adjournment of the talks on July 12th depends on "how
things unfold over the next few days".
Replying to questions by the press before meeting this afternoon with
President Clerides at the UN headquarters in Geneva, de Soto said the break
in the talks "was not what we had desired".
