[03] Greek Cypriots - Turkish Cypriots - Gathering
by Maria Chrysanthou Nicosia, Jul 3 (CNA) -- Greek Cypriots and Turkish
Cypriots of all ages from all parts of the island have sent the message to
their leaders, on the eve of a third round of proximity talks aiming at
substantive dialogue on the Cyprus problem, that "boundaries" and "division
lines" cannot keep people apart, if they want to live together.
In a bicommunal gathering last Saturday, initiated and organised by mixed
Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot youth groups, neighbours from mixed-
villages met for the first time in 26 years, since the 1974 Turkish
invasion and occupation of 37 per cent of the island's territory.

[04] President Clerides - Greek PM - Turkish status quo violation
Athens, July 3 (CNA) -- The violation of the United Nations Peace Keeping
Forces status quo in Cyprus by the Turkish Cypriot side shows contempt
against all relevant agreements and decisions by the UN, President Glafcos
Clerides and Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis said today.
Speaking after a meeting with President Clerides in Athens, Simitis said
the construction of an illegal Turkish military check point in Strovilia in
the south eastern part of Cyprus, which violates the status quo in the area
with a view to restrict movement of UNFICYP soldiers, "reiterates the
intransigence of the Turkish side".

[05] Athens - Cyprus - Greece - Talks
Athens, Jul 3 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Greece have confirmed that President of
the Republic Glafcos Clerides will participate in the Geneva proximity
talks in good faith with the aim to achieve substantial progress towards a
comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the island's question.
Athens and Nicosia have also stressed that complete normalisation of
relations between Greece and Turkey is unattainable without a just solution
to the Cyprus problem.
