    [01] Fires - President Clerides

Nicosia, Jun 17 (CNA) - Uneasy calmness reigns over the massive area, destroyed by huge forest fires in the past four days, as fire fighters and their equipment are still on alert in the vicinity even though the situation is under control, according to Andreas Vladimirou, in charge of the control center of the Fire Services.

Assessing the situation today, President Glafcos Clerides thanked Greece and Israel for their support in the huge effort to extinguish the raging fires, from land and air, said to have destroyed about 50 square kilometers of land in Larnaca and Limassol districts.
