[01] Overseas Greeks and Greek Cypriots - Proclamation - Cyprus

Nicosia, May 20 (CNA) - The World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK), the International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) and the World Council of Hellenes (SAE) point out that "wisdom, courage and political leadership are prerequisites for the solution of the Cyprus problem" and that "strong leaders make the best peacekeepers".

In a Proclamation on the Cyprus question, signed in the framework of the 11th Annual PSEKA Conference in the United States, the three organisations demand the immediate withdrawal of all occupation forces from Cyprus, condemn the policy and practice of the implantation of settlers in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic, express concern over the issue of persons missing since the 1974 Turkish invasion, demand the full restoration of all human rights to the whole population of Cyprus, express support for a bizonal bicommunal federation and look forward to next month's resumption of the UN-led talks for a settlement.

[03] Union of Cyprus Journalists - "Avrupa" - Letters

Nicosia, May 20 (CNA) - The Union of Cyprus Journalists today sent letters to the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Journalists Aidan White and the representative of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on Freedom of the Media Freimut Duve, urging them to act immediately to stop the fascist procedure of strangulating and silencing Turkish Cypriot daily "Avrupa".

In his letters, the President of the Union Andreas Kannaouros also requests that they send envoys to Cyprus, to make the necessary representations to stop the prosecution of "Avrupa" by the illegal regime in the northern Turkish occupied areas of the Republic, where the so-called "authorities" confiscated the daily's equipment and furniture, following a refusal to pay a 290,000-dollar "fine" for alleged defamation of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.
