[01] House President - New Zealand Health Minister
Nicosia, May 19 (CNA) - Health Minister and Racing Minister of New Zealand,
Annette King, expressed satisfaction today that "the whole parliament of
New Zealand has unanimously endorsed a resolution on Cyprus and the need
for Turkish troops to leave this country".
Speaking in Nicosia after a meeting with House of Representatives President,
Spyros Kyprianou, King said her visit here "finishes part of that process
of the endorsement", as she came "to see for myself what has happened to
your beautiful country".

[03] National Guard - New leadership - Ceremony
Nicosia, May 19 (CNA) - Newly appointed Commander of the National Guard,
Lieutenant General Evangelos Florakis, reaffirmed here today his intention
to increase the operational readiness of the Republic's armed forces.
Speaking at a ceremony, during which he received the leadership of the
National Guard, Florakis said he has taken on many responsibilities and
reassured he would continue the work of his predecessor, Lieutenant General
Demetrios Demou.

[04] CoE - Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee - Meeting
Nicosia, May 19 (CNA) - The Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of
the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (CoE) begins a two-day
meeting in Cyprus on May 22.
Ohe committee will discuss the European Union Charter on fundamental human
rights, the election of judges to the European Court of Human Rights, the
situation of homosexuals in the member-states of the CoE, and the
applications for membership of Armenia and Azerbaijan to the CoE.
