    [02] Miss Universe - First titles

    Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- Miss Spain Helen Lindes was the winner of the Photogenic competition held here last night within the framework of the Miss Universe pageant.

    Miss Mexico Letty Mourray won the National Costume Award. First runner up was Miss India Lara Dutta and second runner up Miss Zimbabwe Corrinne Crewe.

    [03] President Clerides - Resumption of duties

    Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides will resume his duties tomorrow as his doctors say his health is making excellent progress, following an operation last Friday to remove a polypod from his large intestine.

    Announcing the President's decision, Attorney General Alecos Markides said President Clerides had already communicated with President of the House of Representatives Spyros Kyprianou to inform him of his decision.

    [04] Foreign Minister - Rome

    Larnaca, May 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides left today for Rome, where he will meet with his Italian counterpart Lamberto Dini. He will also meet with the President of the Italian Parliament Luciano Violante and other officials.

    During his three-day visit, Kasoulides will address the parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs on Cyprus' course of accession to the European Union and efforts for a settlement to the protracted Cyprus problem.

    Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- According to the Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport, the weather forecast for Cyprus is:

    Tuesday and Wednesday 09/05/2000 to 10/05/2000

    The weather will be fine and mostly clear. Winds mainly northwesterly to northeasterly light to moderate and the state of sea slight.

    Maximum temperature: 25C inland and around 23C over coast. Minimum temperature: 13C inland and around 15C over coast.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday 11/05/2000 to 12/05/2000

    No significant change. The temperature is expected to increase by a couple of degrees.

    Sea temperature: 20 C

    [06] Cyprus - Israel - Representations

    Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus has made representations to Israel for the violation of the Nicosia FIR (Flight Information Region) by Israeli aircraft, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.

    The spokesman described the incident as "an administrative violation" and dismissed press reports that the Republic's sovereign air space was also violated.

    [07] Cyprus Defence Minister - Solana - Brussels

    Nicosia, May 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus Defence Minister Socrates Hasikos will fly to Brussels tomorrow to meet on Wednesday Secretary-General of the Council of the EU, Representative for Common, Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, who is also General Secretary of the Western European Union.

    Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said today the "meeting is part of the framework of regular visits between the European Union and the Cyprus Republic which are taking place twice a year, for a general review of relations and discussion of any issues raised by both sides".
