London, Feb 19 (CNA) - Conservative Euro MP Tereza Villiens appeared
optimistic at both the Cyprus accession negotiations and the solution of
its political problem and Westminster MP Sydney Chapman stressed the role
Britain and the U.S. can and must play to end the Cyprus tragedy. Speaking
on Friday in North London, Villiens said she felt "a certain optimism for
the process of accession and the solution of the political problem" and
pledged to work hard for the interests of Cyprus on both aspects.

Washington, Feb 19 (CNA) - US presidential candidate Bill Bradley pledged
to make the resolution of the Cyprus problem a "high priority" for his
administration and said any settlement should be in line with the
fundamental democratic principles and UN resolutions, leading to the
withdrawal of Turkish occupation troops. Bradley called on Turkey to adhere
to high standards of human rights and seek to resolve all disputes only
through peaceful means.

Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides said the government is
making continuous efforts through international bodies to improve the
living conditions of enclaved Greek Cypriots living in the northern Turkish
occupied part of Cyprus and safeguard their basic human rights. He also
said there is no cause for concern about developments in the Cyprus
question, adding that his invitation to the Turkish Cypriots for
participation in accession negotiations with the European Union continues
to be valid.
