[03] Education Minister - 7th International Education Fair

Nicosia, Feb 18 (CNA) -
The 7th International Education Fair will take place in Nicosia between
February 24 and 27, with the participation of 125 organisations, 44
universities, 14 technical schools from Greece, state and private schools,
cultural centres, counselling services, publishers, bookshops and other
bodies of education and educational technology from 13 countries, including
Cyprus.
Speaking at a press
conference, Education and Culture Minister Ouranios Ioannides referred to
the government effort to turn Cyprus into an education centre for the
region, noting that last year more than 2,500 foreign students attended
private colleges here with English programmes while their numbers are
expected to increase substantially this year.<span style="mso-spacerun:
yes">
"The main goal of the Education Fair is to cater for the
needs of our youth through sound and reliable information", Ioannides
said, adding that the Fair is "organised jointly by the Cyprus State
Fairs Authority and the Ministry of Education and Culture".

[04] Bank of Cyprus Group - 1999 Results

Nicosia, Feb 18 (CNA) -
The Bank of Cyprus Group (BOC) recorded excellent operating profits for
1999, reaching 133 million Cyprus pounds, an increase of 103,2 per cent.
(One Cyprus pound is trading at around 1.8 US dollars).
Presenting the
preliminary results for 1999 at a press conference today, the Group's
chairman Solon Triantafyllides said the excellent results enable the Bank
to raise the final dividend from 20 per cent to 24 per cent.

[05] Ministry of Communications - Statement - "Lufthansa"

Nicosia, Feb 18 (CNA) -
"Larnaca International Airport is totally adequate to meet any
emergency or forced landing", a statement by the Ministry of
Communications and Works underlines, describing as "inaccurate"
relevant Turkish media reports.
The statement was
released following a report by the Turkish news agency "Anatolia"
today which supported that an airplane of the German airlines
"Lufthansa" following damage to a tyre upon take off from Larnaca,
which in turn caused damage to the hydraulics of the aircraft, flew to
Constantinople (Istanbul) as the technical equipment of Larnaca airport was
not adequate.

[06] House President - Health

London, Feb 18(CNA) -
Consultant Rex Stambridge said Cyprus House of Representatives President
Spyros Kyprianou, who underwent an operation at St. Mary's Hospital in
London last Saturday to rewire his sternum, is making a continued, slow and
steady progress.
Stambridge said that by
the end of next week he hopes he will be able to give more concrete
predictions regarding the time Kyprianou will be staying in hospital and in
London.

[07] Fuel - Price - Ministers

Nicosia, Feb 18 (CNA) -
Finance and Commerce Ministers, Takis Klerides and Nicos Rolandis
respectively, met today with parliamentary party representatives to discuss
the issue of increasing the price of fuel.
During the meetings
with the five parties (Democratic Rally, left-wing AKEL, Democratic Party,
Socialist Party EDEK and United Democrats), the Ministers found that one of
the three solutions proposed by the government, that is to cover the
difference from state funds, satisfied the parties. A decision will be made
during Wednesday's cabinet meeting.
