[01] President Clerides - Greek Foreign Minister

Nicosia, Jan 12 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides and Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou discussed today new approaches to the Cyprus problem in the light of the conclusions of the European Union Helsinki Summit.

Speaking after the hour-long meeting, Papandreou said he briefed the President on his trip to Ankara, later this month and developments in Greco- Turkish relations and they exchanged views on the second round of UN-led proximity talks on Cyprus expected to start by the end of this month in Geneva.

    [02] Papandreou - Party leaders

Nicosia, Jan 12 (CNA) -- Recent developments in the Cyprus question and in the Republic's European accession course were the focus of today's discussions between visiting Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou and leaders of the island's parliamentary parties here.

The Greek minister and party leaders had what they described as useful and constructive meetings and discussed further moves that need to be taken to make the most of the current climate, in the wake of the European Union summit and ahead of the resumption of UN-led proximity talks in Geneva in late January.

[03] Government Spokesman - Denktash - Foreign officials

Nicosia, Jan 12 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government does not object to contacts between Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash and foreign officials provided there are no messages of recognition of the illegal regime in the Turkish- occupied northern part of the island, its Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said today.

Commenting on reports of an invitation by German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer to Denktash, Papapetrou said there were no indications suggesting that Fischer intends anything other than assisting efforts for a Cyprus settlement.
