    [01] Clinton - Cyprus - Report

Washington, Jan 8 (CNA) -- Stability in the eastern Mediterranean region by reducing long-standing Greco-Turkish tensions and pursuing a comprehensive settlement on Cyprus are goals of the US administration, as far as the region is concerned, according to a White House report.

The report also notes that tensions on Cyprus, Greek-Turkish disagreements in the Aegean and Turkey's relationship with the European Union have "serious implications for regional stability and the evolution of European political and security structures."

    [02] Environmentalists - Protest

Nicosia, Jan 8 (CNA) -- Environmentalists in Cyprus will stage Sunday an anti-nuclear protest in a novel way - by following the local tradition of cutting a New Year's cake.

The protest, aimed against plans by Ankara to build a nuclear plant in southern Turkey, will take place at the top of a tall building in central Nicosia, near the UN controlled buffer zone.
