CNA MM/EC/GP/19992130:CYPPRESS:10[10] Denktash - UN envoy - Statements - Eckhardby Maria MylesNew York, Dec 13 (CNA) -- Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash threatened here Monday that he will not attend the second round of the UN- led proximity talks on Cyprus if a Security Council resolution on the extension of the mandate of UNFICYP includes terms which the T/C side opposes. Speaking after meeting UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, Denktash further criticised the UN for renewing the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus with the recognised government of Cyprus, claiming that this "cliche" will have to stop. Asked if his return to the talks depends on the UNFICYP resolution, Denktash replied "yes". Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General's Spokesman, Fred Eckhard when asked when the second round will start said "when they began it was seen as an open ended process", adding that de Soto will be discussing with the parties over the next couple of days "about the next steps".
