    [01] UN - Buffer zone - T/C - G/C hunters

    Nicosia, Dec, 8 (CNA) -- The UN said no connection has been established between the slight injury of a so called Turkish Cypriot "policeman" south- west of the capital Nicosia, and the fact that two Greek Cypriot hunters were spotted near the area half an hour later.

    UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) spokesman, Charles Gaulkin told CNA here Wednesday that at 0710 local time (0510 GMT) a T/C so-called "police officer" "suffered a shot wound", and that his state of health "is not critical at all".

    [02] UN Special Adviser - Clerides - Denktash

    New York, Dec 8 (CNA) -- UN-led proximity talks on Cyprus held at the UN headquarters continued this afternoon with a meeting between Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto.

    Clerides made no statements after the meeting which lasted nearly two hours.

    [03] Cyprus - Meeting - Left-wing parties

    Nicosia, Dec 8 (CNA) -- The 2nd Euro-Mediterranean Meeting of left-wing parties which is organised by Cyprus' left-wing AKEL will take place between December 10-12.

    Delegations representing forty-six parties from 27 countries will participate in the Meeting which will be held in the southern coastal town of Limassol.

    [04] Envoys - Contacts - Cyprus talks

    New York, Dec 8 (CNA) -- Contacts between envoys of various countries in New York on the sidelines of the UN-sponsored Cyprus talks continue to take place, among themselves, with the UN and with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides.

    "These contacts are friendly and are very useful", a diplomatic source told CNA, adding that US, British, Russian and the German envoys meet to exchange views.

    [05] Airports - Work stoppage - Air controllers - Flights

    Nicosia, Dec 8 (CNA) -- Air traffic controllers at Larnaca and Paphos International Airports carried out a four-hour work stoppage here Wednesday, affecting a total of 49 flights and 16 thousand passengers.

    The air controllers, who oppose government privatisation plans, stopped working from 1400 to 1800 local time (1200 to 1600 GMT).

    [06] Cyprus - Y2K - Ready

    Nicosia, Dec 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus is ready to face Y2K, or Year 2000 problem, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Andreas Chimarides has said today.

    He was speaking after a meeting which examined the island's readiness to cope with the Year 2000 problem in which representatives of the vast majority of Cyprus' government departments and organisations participated.
