Durban, South Africa Nov 12 (CNA) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair today reconfirmed his support to the establishment of a bizonal, bicommunal federation in Cyprus during a meeting with President Glafcos Clerides, in Durban South Africa.

Blair also expressed his support to UN Security Council resolution 1250 and a statement of the group of eight most industrialised countries of the world (G8), that invite the UN Secretary-General to call unconditional talks on Cyprus this fall. He pledged to work towards this direction.

Durban, South Africa, Nov 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides today underlined that Turkey's possible upgrading to a candidate for European Union membership country, during the upcoming Helsinki Summit, is not conceivable without any exchanges for Cyprus.

President Clerides referred to the Cyprus government's position during a meeting with Prime Minister of Malta Edward Fenech Adami, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meeting that opened earlier today.

[04] President Clerides - Commonwealth - Cyprus question

Durban, South Africa Nov 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides has called on the Commonwealth countries to reconfirm their previous decisions and their principles concerning the settlement of the Cyprus problem.

In his speech at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), that opened today in Durban, President Clerides said he will not accept the preconditions set by the Turkish side for Cyprus peace talks to resume.
