London, Oct 30 (CNA) --The Americans will be holding the centre of the
stage in efforts for ending the impasse on the Cyprus problem until the end
of the year and beyond in view of the planned visit by US President Bill
Clinton to the area, well informed sources at the Foreign Office have said.
This will allow Washington to exercise its influence on Turkey into a
more positive stand with regard to both Cyprus and its overall relations
with Greece, the sources added.

[02] Czech senators - Visit
Nicosia, Oct 30 (CNA) -- A delegation from the Czech Republic arrives in
Cyprus tomorrow for an official visit at the invitation of the House of
Representatives.
The delegation comprises members of the Senate Committee on European
Integration, including its chairwoman, Jarmila Filipova and senators
Vlastimil Subrt, Vaclav Reitinger and Zuzana Roithova.

[03] Education Minister - UNESCO
Nicosia, Oct 30 (CNA) -- Minister of Education and Culture, Ouranios
Ioannides, received assurances by UNESCO officials that they will act in
protecting the cultural heritage in the Turkish occupied north of the
island, neglected and looted as a result of the 1974 invasion.
Addressing the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, Ioannides also
repeated the island's commitment to UNESCO and the principles in stands.

[04] EDEK -EU-Cyprus Workshop
Nicosia, Oct 30 (CNA) -- Cyprus' future is in the European Union and it is
in the EU's advantage to have Cyprus as its member, European Parliament
deputies said here Saturday.
Addressing a political workshop entitled "Cyprus -European Union - The
accession course", dedicated to Greece's late alternate Foreign Minister,
Yiannos Kranidiotis, and organised within the framework of events marking
the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Socialist Party EDEK,
Mechtild Rothe and Pauline Green said that between the European
Parliament, the Commission and the Council there might be some differences
but on the main issues on Cyprus there is one line.
