Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNA) -- British Labour Euro MP and rapporteur for Cyprus'
application for accession to the European Union, Pauline Green, discussed
today with left-wing AKEL leader, Demetris Christofias, matters concerning
Cyprus' accession course and Turkey's bid for upgrading to a candidate
country.
Speaking after the meeting, Green said "we have to demonstrate that
Cypriots and Cyprus are ready for membership of the EU, and that nobody has
any sort of external right to say what should happen to the relationship
between Cyprus and the Union, except Cyprus and the Union".

Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNA) -- The Cyprus House of Representatives has
unreservedly condemned the attack against the Armenian Parliament which
resulted in the assassination of the prime minister, the speaker of the
Parliament and others.
In a telegram to Armenian President Robert Kocharian, President of the
House of Representatives Spyros Kyprianou expressed solidarity with the
Armenian people and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNA) -- Turkey's possible status as a European Union (EU)
candidate country should depend on the Cyprus problem, Government Spokesman
Michalis Papapetrou said here Friday.
He was commenting on statements made by German Foreign Minister
Joschka Fischer at the German Parliament. Fischer strongly supported
Turkey's European Union course, causing a reaction by the Christian
Democratic Union and the Free Democratic Party.
