    [01] US envoy - Greece

Athens, Oct 18 (CNA) -- US Presidential Emissary for Cyprus Alfred Moses said today now is the best time to move forward towards resolving the Cyprus problem, citing improved relations between Greece and Turkey as well as the latter's aspiration to join the European Union as positive factors.

Speaking after a meeting in Athens with Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou, Moses described the present situation in Cyprus as "not acceptable" and reaffirmed President Bill Clinton's commitment to see an end to the 25-year old division of the island and Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots "living in peace and harmony under one government".

He said the government expects Kofi Annan to issue invitations for substantive talks to the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides as soon as possible, as the UN and G8 recommend, noting that Annan should outline his suggestions and vies on the situation in Cyprus.
