[01] Maritime Cyprus - Opening
Nicosia, Oct 3 (CNA) -- The Minister responsible for the island's shipping
industry announced here today that as of 1 January Cyprus will introduce a
new policy for the registration of ships under the Cyprus flag, placing a
new ceiling on the age of ships.
Minister of Communications and Works Averof Neophytou also said Cyprus
in its effort to improve quality has appointed additional professional
staff at the Department of Merchant Shipping and has expanded the network
of independent surveyors.

[02] Defence ministers - Cyprus - Greece
Paphos, Oct 3 (CNA) -- Cooperation on military and defence matters between
Cyprus and Greece is "perfect" the defence ministers of the two countries
said here today, stressing at the same time that this will continue.
Socrates Hasikos and his Greek counterpart Akis Tsohatzopoulos, who
concludes a four-day official visit to Cyprus, told a press conference that
Cyprus' defence capability is at a very high standard.
