President Clerides, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and Papapetrou departed last night from New York after more than a week-long series of meetings which culminated with President Clerides' speech to the General Assembly and his meetings with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. The US position was outlined after Tuesday's meeting between President Bill Clinton and Turkish Premier Bulent Ecevit, during which Clinton expressed his strong support for Turkey's candidacy for European Union membership.
