    [02] Cyprus - Solution - Security issues

Nicosia, Sep 7 (CNA) -- The governments of Cyprus and the US consider the security aspect as a crucial part of any future solution to the Cyprus problem and the issue was discussed at the meeting President Glafcos Clerides had yesterday with State Department coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston.

Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou told his daily briefing today that the US consider the Greek Cypriot side's proposal for the dimilitarisation of the island particularly significant and reiterated that any settlement must provide for the withdrawal of all troops and wider security guarantees.
