[01] SPORT: Cyprus team travel to Spain after beating Israel
Nicosia, Sep 6 (CNA) -- Strengthened by their 3 - 2 triumph over the
Israeli national football team last night, the Cypriot team fly today to
Spain to play against the Spaniards on Wednesday, in another Group 6
qualifier for the Euro 2000 finals to be held in Belgium and Holland.
Cyprus stands second in the group with 12 points in six matches, three
points after leading Spain. Israel and Austria follow in the third and
forth places with ten points while San Marino is in the last place without
points.

Nicosia, Sep 6 (CNA) -- US State Department Cyprus Coordinator Thomas
Weston has said he feels encouraged by the willingness he has met in
President Glafcos Clerides to do all he can to move forward with the Cyprus
question.
Weston is also encouraged by the discussions he has had on the island
and the thorough understanding of all of the issues relating to the
problem.

Nicosia, Sep 6 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has congratulated the
Cyprus national football team for their 3 - 2 victory against the Israeli
side last night in Limassol.
Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said President Clerides sent
this morning congratulatory messages to the Cypriot players, their coach
and the President of the Cyprus Football Association.

Nicosia, Sep 6 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has expressed its opposition
to terrorism, religious fanaticism and every secessionist act.
"The government fully backs the territorial integrity of the Russian
Federation and condemns the terrorist action in Dagestan," Government
Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.
