[01] Cyprus - Libya - Suspension of sanctions

Nicosia, Jul 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus has suspended the sanctions imposed on Libya which had been adopted in compliance with UN resolutions.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting yesterday headed by President Glafcos Clerides.

According to an official announcement the government, falling in with the position of the European Union, has not suspended sanctions concerning exports of arms and military equipment.

It has also retained restrictions in the movement of diplomatic personnel and a strict procedure in the issuing of visas.

UN Security Council sanctions against Libya were suspended on April 5 when Tripoli surrendered the suspects for the Lockerbie disaster to be tried in the Netherlands.
