NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

DOBOJ - Avoiding of politicisation, change of regulations on ranks and working span, transformation of the Special Units of the Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) represents amendment on the Law on the Internal Affairs - stated for SRNA RS Internal Affairs Minister Milovan Stankovic. According to him, the supplement Draft Law of internal affairs and unchanged law of public order and peace will be put to the adoption at the first session of the RS National Assembly.

DOBOJ - The RS Internal Affairs Minister Milovan Stankovic during talks with the Deputy IPTF Commissioner for B&H Marc Crocker in Doboj insisted on centralisation of anticipated reconstruction of the RS Police. " I have expressed discontent with so far partial solutions in this procedure" - stated Stankovic. He said that he had proposed to Crocker a concept according to which it must be conducted additional education of personnel of MUP, with a possibility for 600 policemen to be trained in one shift.

BELGRADE - Lieutenant General Momir Talic, regarding announcement of the Supreme Defence Council, by which he has been appointed for the new chief of staff of the RS Army, stated that he had not officially took up the duties yet. " For now I am still at the head of the First Krajina Corps and I still have to meet Defence Minister and members of the RS Defence Supreme Council, and after that I will know what to do next", conveys "Blic".

DOBOJ - The RS Internal Affairs Minister Milovan Stankovic has promised to the representatives of the Republic Labour Union of the Ministry that he would support all their grounded requests. Stankovic had talks with the President of the Republic Board of the Policemen's Syndicate Radovan Pejic and his associates. In the talks he announced reconsidering of the way apartments had been distributed to some workers of MUP before he has been appointed as Minister, as well revision of decisions on pensioning of policemen. He has not supported a request of the Syndical representatives to return the right to strike to members of the MUP, which they have been deprived by proposed amendments of the RS Law on Internal Affairs.

SARAJEVO - In the framework of 10 day's preparations of the B&H Foreign Affairs Ministers in Sarajevo will be held a lecture on the subject " The International Position and Foreign Policy of B&H". The lecture will be given by the Foreign Affairs Minister in the B&H Council of Ministers Jadranko Prlic, his deputies Dragan Bozanic and Husein Zivalj. There will be talks about "Bases of the international public right" - Charter of the United Nations, Vienna Convention , diplomatic and consular relations, Helsinki Declaration...

SARAJEVO - According to estimations of the UN Centre for Mines, through out the region of B&H there are million of these devices which, according to data of the International Red Cross from 1992-1997, caused death of 3,177 persons, among which 686 juveniles. The number of death persons in RS is estimated to 1,683 and in the Federation 1,494 persons. In conclusion of this world organisation it is said that 40% of victims had been exposed to amputation, that same percentage had a heavy body injuries, while 20% died.

ZVORNIK - Veteran's Organisation of Zvornik severly condemned "incorrect conduct of the international community in the case of arresting of Vasic by the federal police", and demands from the international institutions to "mediate in returning of Vasic in RS territory, which is able to put him on a trial too". "We are not going to argue about reasons of the arrest, but we do condemn a way of interfering of the FB&H police with internal affairs of RS" - is said in a stance from the session of the Veteran's Organisation.

SARAJEVO - The main centre of the Democratic Action Party (SDA) in Sarajevo warned supreme heads of the Roman-Catholic Church in B&H to restrain from accusations directed to this Party based on groundless information - reported a radio in Sarajevo. The archbishop Vrhbosanski cardinal Vinko Puljic and his assistant Pero Sudar accused SDA in a public statement that it had been handing out leaflets in the Muslim-controlled region calling remained Croats to move out humanly.

AMSTERDAM - There were no political assassinations in Croatia last year, but reports on ethnically motivated murders of Serbs in regions, which used to be within RS Krajina before, are still arriving - is said in the Report on Human Rights in Croatia during 1997, published by the State Department. There are two reasons for the killings - to upset the remaining local Serbian residents and to discourage return of exiled Serbs - Washington thinks.
