BIJELJINA - The chief of the General Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), general Pero Colic and the deputy commander of the SFOR ground forces, Kordy Simpson, agreed to in Bijeljina that all of the mutual problems are to be resolved together. According to general Colic, 'this is encouraging, particularly, because it means that the SFOR respects our police, but also that we, in accordance with the Dayton Agreement and laws, respect the international forces and do not want to see the situation worsened'. General Simpson pointed out that he is pleased with the cooperation with the VRS General Staff chief and, speaking in general, with the Serbian Army. He added that the RS people, Army and RS police's behaviour at the elections represent an extremely large contribution to the process of democratisation.

SARAJEVO - The victory of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) at the municipal elections in RS is a result of high consciousness and decisiveness of the Serbian people for preserving the united RS, stated in Lukavica the chairman of the House of Representatives of the B&H Parliamentary Assembly, Slobodan Bijelic. While emphasising that the 1997 elections are drawn into draconian and bizarre circumstances by the OSCE, Bijelic assessed that 'the electoral rules with double standards have not made the Serbs - who voted for preserving of the Serbian national interests - hesitant and frightened'.

SARAJEVO - The chairman in the B&H Council of Peoples, Momir Tosic, assessed that at the 6th session of this body the Serbian side has once again showed a full readiness and cooperativeness for forming of B&H, which is based on the principles of the Dayton Agreement. As he said, one of the results of the efforts taken by the RS deputies can be seen in the ratification of the agreements made between the B&H and World Bank - the agreement on reconstruction and development of transportation, which amounts $39,000,000, and the agreement on education in RS and the Federation of B&H, which amounts $11,000,000. Tosic underlined the importance of adopting of a Law on B&H Official Register that, in accordance with the Dayton Agreement, will be published in three letters. 'If the federal partners are cooperative, as the Serbian side is, in the making of agreements on civilian air flights, then the issue of creating of public corporations will be also included on the agenda soon, stated Tosic.

SARAJEVO - The president of the Club of Representatives of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) in the RS Parliament, Vojislav Maksimovic, believes that the SDS's victory at the municipal elections 'was achieved in very difficult conditions, when everything was done for the party to be disabled and underestimated'. As he said, 'the well known circumstances - Biljana Plavsic's fleeing the party and Serbian people's line in RS - influenced considerably on the final election results. While pointing out satisfaction with the SDS's victory in the majority of municipalities, regardless of the fact that it (SDS) had not won the expected number of votes in some of the municipalities, he stressed that 'the national option had prevailed over the socialist, citizen and the so-called liberal parties in RS'.

BANJALUKA - The vice-president of the Banjaluka branch of the SDS, Vitomir Popovic, assesses that the SDS Municipal Board found itself in a media blockade during the pre-election campaign. 'Such a blockade continued even during the first day of elections when the Radio, Studio-Banjaluka maliciously and tendentiously interpreted the occurrences that happened in front of and around the Bosnia Hotel on September 8, explained Popovic, stressing 'We are satisfied with the total election results in RS, because this is a proof that the people believes the SDS and in its struggle for the RS statehood'.

BANJALUKA - The leader of the Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina, Predrag Lazarevic, stated in Banjaluka that the municipal elections gave the most optimal results in RS. He stressed that 'there are just a few areas in the Republic in which one party will be able to rule, while other areas are forced to a coalition, and this is a way to democracy, dialogue and modern progress of the country'.

BANJALUKA - An official with the Office of High Representative, Vladislav Savic, accused once again the Croatian authorities in Drvar of 'mistreating and slowing of the voting of Serbs', assessing such acts 'as inhuman and brutal'. The SFOR spokesman, British colonel, Mike Right announced that the NATO commander, general Wesly Clark, is planning to organise a visit for a group of journalists from RS and the FB&H to the Supreme Staff of the alliance in Brussels from September 29 to October 3.

PETROVO - According to the preliminary results in the Municipality of Petrovo, the SDS won with 2,084 or 51% of the votes. The Serbian Radical Party is on the second place with 25,7% or 989 votes, while the Socialist Party won the third place with 20% or 847 votes.

LJUBINJE - The Local Electoral Commission sent a letter of objection to the Provisional Electoral Commission in Sarajevo, claiming that 38 voters, who were marked on the final voter list as duplicates, are not disputable at all and are to be recognised as regular. The Local Electoral Commission maintains in its announcement that this is just a way for manipulations, especially in smaller municipalities where a small number of votes can decide on the number of deputy seats.

NOVI SAD - The greatest and best guarantee for territorial preserving of RS was achieved by the electoral triumph of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) and Serbian Radical Party (SRS) in almost two thirds of the RS municipalities, stated the head of the Novi Sad branch of the SRS, Igor Mirovic. He stressed that satisfaction with the SRS's electoral success 'is even greater with the fact that the SDS also succeed in raising itself from the crisis and problems imposed on it by others and in achieving such successful election results'.
