NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BIJELJINA - According to unofficial and incomplete data, in the Bijeljina area the SDS got the most of votes - 19,045 or 34.94%;SRS got 13,333 or 24. 46% votes; and the Democratic Party for RS got 7,493 or 13.75% votes.

ZVORNIK - The Local Electoral Commission in Zvornik unofficially announced that the SDS won 40 per cent of votes, SRS for RS 29 %, Socialist Party for RS (SP for RS)11%, while the other political parties together won 20 % of votes.

MODRICA - The SDS got the majority of votes in Modrica from 8,628 or 58.98% of 15.562 of registered voters. the SRS won 17.30% or 2,513 votes, while the SP for RS got 1,716 or 11.63% of votes. Other 19 parties and two independent candidates won 1,755 or 19.99% of votes, with no party or independent candidates among them winning more than 2% of votes.

BANJALUKA - Out of 90.779 eligible voters who took part at the local elections in Banjaluka, the SP for RS got 18.97% of votes, the second ranged is the Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina with 18.4%, and the third arty is the coalition for Banjaluka with 12.7% of votes. The Democratic Patriotic Party of Rs is on the fourth place, counting 11.9% of votes, while the SDS took the fifth place with only 10.4% of votes. Next on the list of political parties which run for local posts are: SPAS with 6.96% of votes, SRS with 5.5% and the Party of Serb Unity with 2.24 of votes, while all other parties, coalition and independent candidates in Banjaluka got about or less than one per cent of votes.

PRIJEDOR - About 20% of constituency in Prijedor voted for the SDS, 12% for the SP for RS, 11% for the Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina, 9.2% for SRS.

PRNJAVOR - Among 18 political parties, coalitions and independent candidates at the local elections in Prnjavor , the SDS got 9,445 or 42.69% of votes, following is the SP for RS with 3,770 or 17.04% of votes, then SRS for RS with 3.034 or 13.71% votes, Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina 2,095 or 9.47%, The Serbian peasants' Party (SSS) won 1,169 or 5. 28% of votes.

SRBAC - The Party of Independent Social Democrats got the majority of votes - 24.77%, the SP for RS got 24.10%, and SDS 20.52%. The right to delegate deputies was acquired also by the SRS with 7.53% votes, the Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina with 5.21%, SSS with 3.92%, SPAS with 3.65%, the Serbian Patriotic Front with 3.07% and National Party with 2.56% of votes.

NOVI GRAD - In the areas of Novi Grad and Srpska Kostajnica, which represent one polling unit, the SDS got 6,782 or 37% of votes, SPAS got 6, 584 or 35%, and SRS 2,851 or 15.5%, and SPAS .493 votes; other parties won insignificant number of votes.

SREBRENICA - The SDS won the votes of 4,386 or 46.6% voters, SRS won 2,984 or 31% of votes. The SP for RS got 356 or 3.8% of votes, while small number of votes was given other political parties.

VLASENICA - In the Vlasenica-Milici electoral unit, the SRS got 6,006 or 45. 25% of votes, hen SDS got 40.36% and SP for RS got 4.68% of votes. In the municipality of Sekovici the SDS list won 1.913 or 41.04% votes, SRs got 1. 371 or 29.41% votes, SP for RS 930 or 19.95% votes, while the Party of Democratic Reforms got 258 or 5.53% votes.

ROGATICA - In Rogatica, SDS won 56,6% of votes, SRS 29.4%, SP for RS 8.7%, the Party of Democratic Action 1.8% and others 2% of votes.

SRPSKO GORAZDE - The SDS took the first place with 1,711 or 51% won votes in the local elections in Srpsko Gorazde, and is followed by the SRS which got 1,019 or 30% votes. the Coalition for Single and Unitary B-H got 542 or 61% votes, Social- Democratic Party for B-H got 47 or 1.3%, Bosnian Party 14 or 0.3% of votes, while the independent candidate Sreten Krstanovic got 27 or 0.8% votes.

BILECA - Total 3,514 or 50.17% of votes voted for the SDS, 2.404 or 34.32% for the SRS, 891 or 12.72% for SP for RS, 123 or 1.74% for SPAS, while the Coalition of Muslim parties got 16 or 0.23% votes.

TREBINJE - In the municipality of Trebinje the majority of deputies in the city assmelby will be comprised of the SDS, SRS and SP for RS. The SDS got 6,623 or 39.68 votes, SDS got 5,035 or 30.16%, and SP for RS got 2,794 or 16.74% votes.

NEVESINJE - In Nevesinje, 5,997 or 60.5% voters voted for the SDS, 23.33% voted for the SRS, and 7% for The serbian Renewal movement.

RUDO - According to the first unofficial returns, the SRS got 2,182 or 44% of votes in Rudo. The SRS got 1,875 or 38% votes, SP for RS got 393 or 7% votes, while the New Democratic Movement got 316 or 6% votes.

NOVI SAD - The polling for the local authorities and local administration in RS and the B-H Federation was completed after three-hour extension. The Electoral Commission and OSCE supervisor for Vojvodina, Vladimir Lipov, had decided to prolong the polling because of very poor organisation of balloting and long and slow electoral procedure.

NIS - Out of total 2,3000 registered refugees in Nis, 56% of registered voters went to polling. Results have not been published yet, because ballots will be forwarded to Sarajevo for counting.

PODGORICA - Out of 2,000 registered voters, them 1,048 or 65% voted at the local elections in Rs and the Federation of B-H, at the polling stations in Monte Negro; 1,000 registered voters went to RS and Federation for voting.

BEOGRAD - At the local elections in RS, 70,000 Serbs in RS and 160,000 in Yugoslavia were disfranchised, stated the RS vicepremier Aleksa Buha in Belgade. While talking at the SDS for Serbia'-organised tribune "How to defend RS and Dayton Agreement", Buha said RS had many arguments to block the elections because of unfavourable conditions for the elections, but it gave up because of fears that it might mean division of RS and its demise.

BANJALUKA - The SP for RS president Zivko Radisic stated after the first results of the local elections had been announced that democracy won. "Thanks to extraordinary voters turnout, the patriotic, political and human matureness was reaffirmed together with firmness to seek way out of the present difficult situation by peaceful means", Radisic said in Banjaluka.

BEOGRAD - The Congregational National Party (SNS) believes that the local elections showed that the international community flagrantly violated all agreements reached last week in Belgrade. the SNS pointed out that international representatives and SFOR were responsible for the regularity of the elections, and added that "over 3,000 Serbs in Brcko could not vote, while at one polling station 720 out of 900 registered voters were evaded form the list.

BELGRADE - The director of the Institute for the international policy and economy in Belgrade, Predrag Simic, assessed that the local elections in RS and Federation of B-H "are way of pressure upon the Serbs and a part fop the international community's policy of creation of unitary B-H". "Preventing the legalisation of the status of the Serbs in Brcko, with the use of instruments of pressure, projected in the Dayton agreement are very well matched into a comprehensive policy towards RS", stated Simic.

BANJALUKA - The president of the Banjaluka Local Electoral Commission, Vukasin Boskovic, stated that during the voting in

Banjaluka, 3,099 unclear and 3,579 unverified ballots were sent for verification to the OSCE Mission base in Sarajevo.

ATHENS - The international community expects the local elections in RS and B-H Federation to result in change of authorities in key municipalities, of which a special care was taken during the drafting he voters lists in June, assess the Greek media. Publishing of the electoral results, set for next weekend, will not bring about surprises bigger than that on the determination of voters lists.

PRISTINA - The intrusions of the gangs from Albania into the Yugoslav territory do not stop, and the last one happened two days ago near Decani, when an armed three-member gang kidnapped four residnts of the town. No official report was issued regaring this event, but unofficial reports say that the gang took four loggers, Vladimir Stojanovic, Dragan Stijovic, Bozidar Djurisic and Enver Dzaferi to the forest, harrased them, and asked for DEM 80,000 in exchange for their release.
