  • [01] President Emil Constantinescu received James Dobbins, assistant for European Affairs of the Secretary of State of the United States.

    During the talks stress was laid on the security in the area with special and detailed reference on changes that occured in the Balkans after elections in Serbia. According to a communique of the Presidency of Romania which was taken over by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI an exchange of views took place on the best solutions to the issues also taking into account the fact that starting next year Romania takes over the Chairmanship of OSCE. James Dobbins said that the Administration was interested in the well balanced and positive development of the states of the area and in maintaining the Pact of Stability in the Balkans. Mr. Dobbins also met with the Romanian Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu and with the Romanian Foreign Minister Petre Roman.

    The two interlocutors examined the results of the bilateral military exercise JOINT EFFORTS BLUE DANUBE 2000 which unfolded at the end of last month. Stress was also laid on the participation of the two countries in the multinational force for peacekeeping in South Eastern Europe and on the preparations which Romania and Bulgaria are making for joining NATO.

    [03] United States Ambassador to Romania James Rosapepe warns Romanian General Prosecutors about Romanian hackers

    James Rosapepe and one of the officials of the United States Department of Justice held a press conference during which they warned the Bureau of General Prosecutors of Romania about the fact that Romanian hackers perpetrated criminal activities within the so called "E commerce" and stole several millions of USD worth of products until now. Romanian deputy General Prosecutor Ion Ionescu said collaboration between specialists of the United States and Romania started in order to terminate this kind of criminal activities.

    [04] Serbia could import power from Romania

    Starting 1 November 2000 Serbia could import power from Romania said in Belgrade the management of EPS which is the main supplier of power of that country. On a daily basis the Serbian partner imports 12 million KW at the most, added manager Marjanovic.

    [05] Yugoslavia was received as full member of the Pact of Stability of South Eastern Europe

    At the Palace of the Romanian Parliament, during the session of assessment of the Round Table for Democracitization and Human Rights of the Pact of Stability, Yugoslavia was received as full member of the Pact of Stability. Coordinator Bodo Hombach said that was a historic event as the Pact of Stability was the first institution that opened the door to new Yugoslavia toward Europe and integration in the international community. The representative of President Kostunica, Goran Zvilanovic, presented a letter from the leadership of his country reading that all obligations of the Pact of Stability are being assumed by Yugoslavia.

    President Bill Clinton declared in Washington D.C. on Thursday that the admittance of Yugoslavia in the Pact of Stability during the Bucharest debates was the expression of the international support which the new, democratic leadership of Yugoslavia was enjoying in the international arena.

    [07] Conclusion in Bucharest of the debates of the Pact of Stability

    At the press conference which took place after the conclusion of debates, coordinator Bodo Hombach said that, together with the inclusion of Yugoslavia in the Pact, the economic machinery was put in motion for rapid assistance to Yugoslavia. Alongside aid in food, medicines and energy the European Union will release 200 million euros and also other kinds of assistance from the European Union and from G8. Mr. Hombach praised the activity of Romania in the region.

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, is having talks today with the President of the Renault Group, Louis Schweitzer, and with the vice- president of the Renault Group and president of the Chamber of Commerce France - Romania, Manuel Gomez. On the occasion of the reception and talks the President of Romania will also confer to the guests high orders and citations of the Republic of Romania.

    One day visit to Vienna of the Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman where he attends the Ministerial Council of the OSCE TROIKA .

    In Brussels a Romanian delegation led by Secretary of State, Eugen Dijmarescu, Head of the European Affairs Department of the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry are attending the annual conference of the Association Committee Romania - the European Union.

    Starting today RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI TRANSMITS STARTING 19:10 the programme

    CANDIDATES TO THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT OF ROMANIA BEFORE THE ELECTORATE.

    Inauguration of the Center of studies East - West in the new Europe, which is part of a programme in the theme network Socrates - Erasmus of the European Commission.

    At Jimbolia the Forum takes place of the entrepreneurs of Timis and Csongrad, Hungary, with the participation of the Ambassador of Hungary to Bucharest, Iigyarto Istvan and the mayor of the town of Jimbolia, Kaba Gabor.

    Launching of the book SPRING OF MUSIC by Grigore Constantinescu in the Mihail Jora Concert Studio of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION.

    Start of the one week vacation of the school students of Romania right after classes today.
