The report draws the conclusion that the privatization of ROMTELECOM is a serious prejudice to the interests of the Romanian state and stresses that since ROMTELECOM was bought by OTE which, according to Senator Sandulescu, is a small company of Cyprus with a capital of 2000 USD, tariffs have continued to be on the increase for services of ROMTELECOM here in this country. Senator Sandulescu also said that a number of Romanian officials received bribes that amount to close to seventy million USD from OTE - however he hasted to add that that was his own opinion - and named the officials. The list starts with former Prime Minister Radu Vasile and includes impressive names that add to those of the Council of Administration of ROMTELECOM when the company was privatized. Most of the senators are asking for the cancellation of the privatization contract and a decision of the Senate in this sense will be made next week.

In the morning Bodo Hombach attended a joint press conference together with the Romanian Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu after having had talks with the host on the infrastructure of Romania. Mr. Hombach told the media present at the conference in Bucharest that it was not by chance that Romania's capital city was chosen to host the ceremony by which Yugoslavia was received as full member of the Pact of Stability.

Mr. Hombach added that that was a proof of the trust which European officials nurture for Romania and for the authorities in charge in Bucharest. Mr. Hombach added that Romania is considered as being a very constructive initiator of actions for solving the problems in this area while the fact that Yugoslavia did away with the regime of military aggression could lead to the rapid implementation of the projects of reconstruction in the area that until now did not receive any money from the donors that are members of the Pact of Stability.

In the morning the Prime Minister of Romania Mugur Isarescu and the Coordinator of the Pact of Stability for South Eastern Europe, Bodo Hombach, had talks on the financing of infrastructures of Romania among which the Calafat - Vidin bridge over the river Danube, as well as the highway and roads linking the bridge across Romania to Hungary.
