  • [01] Accord of granting residence by Romania to SECI

    In the presence of President Emil Constantinescu an accord was signed to give SECI a residence here in Romania. SECI is the Initiative of Cooperation in South Eastern Europe and the accord which will dramatically cut down transfrontier criminality was signed by general coordinator of the center Erhard Busek and presidential counselor, army general Constantin Degeratu.

    [02] Meeting of the defense ministers of Romania and Finland

    Defense minister of Romania Sorin Frunzaverde and his Finnish opposite number Jan Enestain who is visiting Romania talked of cooperation between the two armies including restructuring and exchange of army officers for refresher and bettering courses in each others' country. Also tackled was the situation in Yugoslavia and the participation of Romania in missions of maintaining peace.

    [03] Military delegation of Switzerland starts visit to Romania

    Swiss military delegation led by the Head of the General Chiefs of Staff of that army, army corps general Hans Ulrich Scherrer starts visit to Romania today at the invitation of his Romanian opposite number, division general Mircea Chelaru. Romanian army's participation in cooperation actions on the continent is to be tackled during the talks.

    [04] Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry retorts to allegations of communist Chisinau MP Vladimir Voronin

    The three color flag of both Romania and Moldova that however have different symbols on the middle space as we speak of two different countries was named " fascist symbol " by the Chisinau MP Vladimir Voronin who represents the Communist Party. Mr. Voronin is the leader of that party in the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian Foreign Ministry voices the indignation of the diplomatic forums of Romania at the attitude of the MP. The press statement then adds that this attitude cannot be an obstacle in the way of the permanent strengthening of the brotherly ties between the two states. The Romanian Foreign Ministry also stresses the hope that the Chisinau authorities will examine the allegations and adopt the necessary measures so that such an attitude should not be met with in the future.

    [05] Round table occasioned by 50 years since the adoption of the European Convention on Human Rights

    Round table occasioned by 50 years since the adoption of the European Convention of Human Rights took place at the Palace of the Romanian Parliament having been organized in cooperation with the European Council. In the center of attention was the speech delivered by judge Barsan of the Supreme Court of Europe for Human Rights which among other things mentioned that 736 dossiers against the Romanian state are to be examined by the European Court.

    Plenum debates of the Senate of Romania. Resumption of the debates on the Bill of Nationalized Dwellings.

    Plenum debates of the Chamber of Deputies.

    Press Conference of the Ambassador of Great Britain to Romania, Richard Ralph, and the Home Affairs Minister, Constantin Dudu Ionescu, as part of the seminar AUTHORITY FOR THE POLICE, a component part of the programme of assistance for Romania, financed by the British government.

    Defense Minister of Finland Jan-Erik Enestain, now on a visit to Romania, has talks with the Romanian secretary of state with the Foreign Ministry of this country, Mihai Ungureanu.

    As part of the project INFOREG financed by the European Union, official opening takes place at Timisoara, as part of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Timis, of the Regional Center of European Information for the Western area.

    Reception of the Ambassador of Germany to Romania, Wolf-Dietrich Schilling, on the occasion of the DAY OF GERMAN UNITY.
