[02] ECONOMIC NEWS
[08] "Les Echos" about Romanian Economy
The French newspaper "Les Echos" wrote about the economic situation in
Romania. RADIO FRANCE INTERNATIONALE considers that the article stresses
the slow rhythm of the economic reforms started ten years ago, and alleges
Romania ranks last among the East European countries regarding both the
economic growth and the living standard. As for foreign investments, they
are ridiculously low for a country with over 20 million inhabitants. "Les
Echos" notices though the abundance in the shops, the extremely great
number of cars and the great number of cell phones. The French newspaper
considers these are the sign "an embryo of middle class" appeared in
Romanian society, able to consume even if its financial resources sometimes
come from the "underground economy". RADOR
