[01] The new Cabinet was sworn inThe new Cabinet led by Mugur Isarescu was sworn in on Wednesday in front of President Emil Constantinescu. In his address the President has said Romania has a Cabinet which is quite ready to answer the big challenges of the economic and social issues of the country and to boost negociations for accession to the European Union. President Constantinescu added that the Romanians do wish to have a more prosperous present and a more certain future. The conclusion was that the mandate of the new Cabinet is firm and clear in as far as the immediate and future interest of each citizen is concerned. After the ceremony the minister of national defense Victor Babiuc said documentation for the restructuring of the army was ready with a view to be finalized in 2000, according to the White Charter of the Cabinet. The project is to be discussed in a session of the Supreme Council for the Defense of the country in the first half of January. Minister of Health Hajdu Gabor said he hoped the Ministry will be able to provide funds to pay the 13-th salary of the year by 31 December, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR[02] President Emil Constantinescu was the guest of the JURNAL programme of the Romanian Public Television - TVR IThe President was the guest of the feature THE NEWS ITEM OF THE DAY and he said that the former Prime Minister Radu Vasile's Cabinet had to be reshuffled and the PM changed following reality of the Romanian society while the vote given Cabinet Isarescu in Parliament reflects the correctness of the decision made. The President added that the Constitution of Romania clearly stipulates that in cases of crisis it is the President of the country who has to take action very fast in order to solve the crisis. President Constantinescu added that next year Romania has to administer considerable funds which are supplied by the European Union and this is why the most adequate person to do this is the former Governor of the National Bank of Romania, now at the head of the Cabinet. In conclusion President Constantinescu said the tasks of our political class next year could be put together as follows: responsibility, pragmatism and results, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. RADOR[03] Mircea Ionescu Quintus is the interim president of the SenateSecretary general of the Senate Alexandru Dumitrescu said after the session of the Standing Committee that starting 22 December and until a new President of the Senate is elected Liberal Party leader Ionescu Quintus is the ad interim President of the Senate. Another memorial was dedicated yesterday to honor the heroes of the Revolution in front of the Concert Hall of Radio Romania. At the Cotroceni Palace President Emil Constantinescu gave the anniversary diploma and the golden medal TEN YEARS SINCE THE ROMANIAN ANTICOMMUNIST REVOLUTION OF DECEMBER 1989 to the martyr towns of Timisoara, Bucharest, Arad, Brasov, Sibiu and Targoviste reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR[05] The delegation of the European commission in Romania released the list of the projects selected to be financedThe projects are worth approximately 500 000 EURO and are aimed at supporting the poor, at strengthening democracy and the state as well as local development in Romania.According to a press communique received by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI from the European Commission two new programmes will be launched next year to support non government organizations in Romania. RADOR[06] BANCA AGRICOLA was privatizedThe Agricultural Bank was privatized said Radu Sarbu, President of the State Ownership Fund during a press conference. The winner of the bid for majority stock is the French LAZARE FRERES consortium informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. The actual privatization process begins in the first six months of next year.
