[01] Letters to the President of Romania sent by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the Finnish Prime Minister before the Helsinki summitThe letter sent by Tony Blair reads among other things that he has made an appeal to the Council of Europe to observe the efforts made by Romania for remoulding its economy so that our country could start negociations for adherence to the European Union. The letter also reads that ten years after the fall of communism it is time for a decisive step to be taken so that Romania acceeds to the Union. Tony Blair writes that Romania has made major progress with a view to accession and the tough mission of adherence negociations, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. The letter also reads that Britain will continue to work together with Romania in a constructive manner to ensure a rapid progress of our country. RADORBefore the summit in Helsinki the Finnish Prime Minister, Paavo Lipponen has sent a letter to the resident of Romania reading that negociations with all candidates to accession to the European Union will be decided in Helsinki adding that the future of the European Union will be decided in Helsinki. RADOR [02] The President of the Senate is participating in the international conference in GenevaPetre Roman is in Geneva for the international conference on banking law and the fight against criminal activities. According to a press communique received by the Senate and quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI the conference is taking place under the auspices of the CRANS MONTANA forum and the European council. The president of the Romanian Senate presents an interparliamentary initiative for combatting organized crime with the participation of interested parliaments. RADOR[03] Promotion and protection of investments of Romania and IndiaBucharest Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the signing of the accord of promotion and protection of invest ents of each of the two countries in the other mentioned country. Spokesperson of the Romanian Foreign Ministry quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI said that bilateral relations are also discussed by the two delegations as well as the expansion of cooperation in domains of mutual interest, the strengthening of legal framework and relations between Romania and India in general. RADOR[04] Joint session of the two Chambers of the Romanian ParliamentThe two Chambers of the Parliament of Romania passed with the exception of two articles adopted by the Senate alone the bill on the restitution of land and forests to former owners. During the same session approved was also the request of the President of Romania to let US militaruy train with equipment of KFOR US forces cross the teritorry of Romania in the interval 11 -12 December this year. RADOR[05] Public meeting as part of the programme ELECTIONS 2000The College MIHAI VITEAZUL of the city of Buchares has hosted a public meeting of citizens of the capital city of Romania with members of the Romanian Parliament,RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. PNTCD Senator Corneliu Turianu said that this type of meetings should be held on a regular basis as is the case of any democratic country. RADOR[06] Press Conference of Dragos ConstantinescuThe son of the President of Romania, Dragos Constantinescu, held a press conference during which he rejected all accusations brought against him by Senator Corneliu Vadim Tudor and the magazine ROMANIA MARE. Dragos Constantinescu said, according to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, that he did not have any company of his own and he had no lucrative business. His revenue is of 3500000 lei per month which results from salary he receives from the foundation CHILDREN OF ROMANIA. He rejected all accusations against him according to which he would have been implied in smuggling cigarettes, coffee, meat and meat products and denied hav ng any implication in taking over all activities of the duty-free shops at Otopeni Airport. Dragos Constantinescu ended by saying that both media and legal authorities must put things right. RADOR[07] Banking dealNational Bank of Romania announced the signing of a loan from 12 banks which are partly or totally owned by foreign corporations worth 64 million USD, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI informs. Pay back term is a year from now and interest rate is LIBOR for USD plus 4.5 per cent float. RADOR[08] Credit for Romania guaranteed by the British GovernmentRomanian ambassador to London Radu Onofrei quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI said that the British government agreed to guarantee credits for a contract worth 120 million USD used to build drinking water systems and social dwellings in the rural areas of Romania.
