[01] Senate passes the draft law on setting up national solidarity fund
On Thursday the Senate passed the draft law on the setting up and use of
the national solidarity fund. The draft stipulates tax of social stamp for
gambling. Social stamp will have a 10 per cent value and money obtained is
to be used for supplimentary grants to families with many children and for
any other social needs.Social stamp is to paid by gamblers and money is
deposited in the accounts of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection,
says RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR
[02] Draft law on access to Securitate files again debated by the Chamber
of Deputies
Chamber of Deputies continued debates on Thursday on the draft law on
access to Securitate files and deconspiring Securitate as political police,
a law initiated by Senator Ticu Dumitrescu. After heated debates the MP-ies
decided that the list of persons that can be investigated as having had
belonged to former Securitate be clergy of all cults of Romania, leaders of
political parties, military and civilians that are managers with the
Ministry of National Defense, managers of postal and communication network,
of the health departments, state owned companies managers. RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI informs that MP-ies also decided that this list also include
Trade Union and employers union leaders at national level as well as
persons that have certificates attesting quality of Revolutionary. RADOR
[03] Government adopted emergency ordinances and decisions having economic
character
Government on Thursday passed several emergency ordinances regarding
measures of developing economic activity, stimulation of payment of dues
owed the State budget, financial restructuring of BANCOREX and temporary
authorization given to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to purchase
wheat on the free market in order to stabilize wheat situation, RADIO
ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. At the same time the Government passed a
decision on control of value of imported products while customs inspected.
Electric power is 17.4 per cent for companies and 54 per cent more
expensive for individual consumers as decided by the Cabinet while thermal
power goes up to 156.000 lei/GCal. The Cabinet also increases railways and
river passenger transport prices by 9.5%, drinking water plus Romanian made
medical drugs prices. Services of Home Ministry including passports and
driving licences registration increase fees between 9.5 and 17 per cent.

[04] Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation and Romanian Television
Corporation may use their own resources for paying debts
Emergency ordinance passed by the Government of Romania alters Article 45
of Law 41 of 1994 regarding organization and structure of the Romanian
Radio Broadcasting Corporation and the Romanian Television Corporation
allowing the two national public electronic media organizations to use
their own money resources to complete budget with a view to pay debts to
the National Radiocommunication Company and other companies part of the
communication system, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR
[05] PUNR - National Unity Party of Romanians - says present Cabinet leads
Romanian people to poverty and despair
PUNR believes that present Cabinet condemns Romanian people to poverty and
despair by the dissolution of large number of state owned companies.
Bankrupcy of Romanian industry and agriculture - PUNR believes- is a
deliberate action of the present Power by incompetence and national lack of
interest. PUNR also says that present Power did not negociate memorandum
with IMF in the spirit of the fundamental national interests of the country
from the economic and social points of view. In a communique received by
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI it is also mentioned that PUNR stands for correct
relations of Romania with the IMF and the World Bank. RADOR
[06] Victor Ciorbea said patriot Ilie Ilascu should be honorary President
of the Christian Democratic National Alliance
ANCD President Victor Ciorbea promised Mrs. Natalia Ilascu, the mother of
patriot Ilie Ilascu who is in prison at Tiraspol, that his party will take
all necessary steps both at home and abroad for the freeing of Ilie Ilascu
and the other patriots incarcerated together with him, namely Andrei
Ivantoc, Alexandru Lesco and Tudor Petrov Popa. Mrs. Ilascu thanked Mr.
Ciorbea for the promise and for the proposal advanced to her son to be
honorary President of the Alliance and voiced her appreciation at the fact
that Ilie Ilascu and the other members of the group were not abandoned

[07] 44-th Edition of the Warsaw Book Fair
Romania is an honorary guest of the 44-th edition of the Warsaw Book Fair
which was inaugurated on Thursday. According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI
the Romanian delegation present at this edition of the Fair is led by
Minister of Culture Ion Caramitru. This edition of the Book Fair in Warsaw
coincides with the 80-th anniversary of diplomatic relations between
Romania and Poland and offers the chance of a re-launch of cultural
bilateral ties. RADOR
