[01] Visit of PNL prime-vicepresident Valeriu Stoica to Hunedoara county
For three days prime-vicepresident of PNL (The National Liberal Party)
Valeriu Stoica has met leaders and members of local organization from Valea
Jiului, Hunedoara, Deva, Brad with whom he has analysed concrete
possibilities of increase PNL electoral adherence, steps for achievement
party strategy thinking liberalism in Romania to change from doctrine into
reality. Valeriu Stoica visited on Sunday morning new factory for
processing wood from Dobra village. Referring to PNL legislative priorities
Valeriu Stoica has declared in an interview for up-mentioned radio: "We
wish to change Romania in a country of owners that is why priorities for us
are adoption of Law of public property for making a delimitaton between
public domain and private domain of state and of local communities; we also
wish a lot to be adopted in this autumn draft law concerning retrocession
of houses taken over by state during communism and draft law concerning
protection of lodgers. It also must not be ignored fact that during this
period it would have to be adopted draft law concerning change of Civil

[02] PDSR President Ion Iliescu visit to Cluj county is over
At the end of his visit to Cluj and Salaj counties president of PDSR (The
Party of Social Democracy in Romania) Ion Iliescu was on Sunday at Traznea
and Ciucea. PDSR president has taken again critical speech towards power.
In his opinion difficullt situation from agriculture is caused by
inefficient politic steps and destructive mentality of government which has
ordered close of big agricultural and zootechnic centres. Ion Iliescu wishe
to go today to Traznea for laying down a garland at monument of the 86
natives killed in 1940 by Horthy troops. Just 58 years after Dictate from
Vienna Ion Iliescu has sustained in front of inhabitants from Traznea
weakening state's authority and carelessness with which present power
treats actions of UDMR ((The Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania) can
create premises of a similar situation to that from 1940 when Romania lost
Transylvania. At the end of his visit Ion Iliescu has specified in front of
the press aim of his visit to Transylvania is not exclusively an electoral
one PDSR trying in that way to communicate directly with citizens but also

[03] ApR President Teodor Melescanu presents part of youth in the party
For two days in Craiova took place a zonal meeting of Central Executive
Office of Party Alliance for Romania (ApR). On this occasion problems of
youth in context of development of ApR county structures. About way in
which youngmen's part is discerned in the party ApR leader Teodor Melescanu
has declared: "Fact that there are so many youngmen in the party and they
have assumed responsibilities - I can say special ones - is warrant we are
indeed the third force an alternative both to present and former governing
and it is naturally to pay our whole attention to youngmen's taking part
into politic life. Our party aim is to be at youngmen's disposal in order
they to use structures which are in our attention for building up - with
intelligence, perseverance and a certain patience - future of the country
and their own future. So that we wish to transfer responsabilities from our
generation to theirs. This was my main message here in Craiova". RADOR,

[04] Chief of General Staff of Romanian Army about diminishing of defence
budget
Chief of General Staff of Romanian Army division general Constantin
Degeratu on Saturday came back from one week visit to Germany. At his
arrival in a press conference general Degeratu appreciated - among others -
diminishing of defence budget would also diminish chances of increasing
soldiers' pays for function and for rank. This diminishing will also affect
Romania's chances for adhering to NATO because it will affect our country's
credibility - general Degeratu has warned. Lack of money for endowment
determined general Degeratu to affirm project for making in common with
German Company Kraus-Maffei of a modern tank TR 2000 for Romanian Army is
"a little too bold for what we can think now". Referring to the fact since
October 1 pays for function and for rank would have to be increased
according to governmental promise materialized in a government decision
general Degeratu has declared normally in present budget not yet rectified
are a few chances to find resources for this increase. Taking into account
the situation it is probable a discussion in CSAT for clearing up this
matter but chief od General Staff has expressed some reserves concerning a

[05] The 12th international meeting "Men and Religions" from Bucharest
On Sunday afternoon at Parliament Palace from Bucharest was opened the 12th
international meeting "Men and Religions" by an inaugural session chaired
by Allhappy Petros VII Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and the whole
Africa. In their greeting messages ecumenic patriarch His Holiness
Bartholomeu I, Allhapy Patriarch Teoctist and president of Community
Sant'Egidio Andrea Ricardi have communicated to all present guests their
direct hope the result of this meeting is to be materialization in facts
and actions of common ideals of peace and unity of the participants. At the
second session of meeting "Men and Religions" from Parliament Palace from
Bucharest it was read a message of American President Bill Clinton in which
it is positively appreciated fact that leaders of world religions gathered
at Bucharest for finding the best ways of promotion reconciliation and
peace and also to take part into creation a favourable climate for
flourishing all religions and their co-operation for clearing away
intolerance and terrorism. RADOR, August 31
[06] President Emil Constantinescu's message for international meeting "Men
and Religions"
Present at opening of meeting President Emil Constantinescu has pleaded -
in his speech - in favour of dialogue stressing fundamental part of world
religions. He has affirmed it is all nations' interest to co-operate for
rejecting what they consider intolerable. Presence in Bucharest of high
prelates demonstrates East Europe is not more a closed territory izolated
by the rest of the world and Romania wishes to proclaim her will for co-
operation with all those ready to know and to value other nations,
traditions and historical destinies. RADOR, August 31
[07] Premier Radu Vasile's message for international meeting "Men and
Religions"
The 12th international meeting "Men and Religions- Peace is name of God"
opened on Sunday at Bucharest received a message from Prime-Minister Radu
Vasile. He considers for Romania this meeting is not only an event but also
a present meaning a generous action of inter-religions harmony initiated by
professor Andrea Ricardi 12 years ago. Then the important fact to be
stressed is organizing of this meeting for the first time in an Orthodox
country where was born author of the famous History of Religions Mircea
Eliade. In a moral and spiritual order choosing of Bucharest is a present
of love and confidence. In message it is also said: "Let it be these
blessed days to become a reference moment along difficult way towards
achievement of spiritual harmony of the world possible only by tolerance,
peace, dialogue and at the same time to announce dawn of a new millenium in
which endless love in and for God will win". RADOR, August 31
[08] Solemn mass for honouring God
In the first part of Sunday on Romanian Patriarchate Hill took place a
solemn mass performed by eight Orthodox patriarches in presence of six
important Roman-Catholic cardinals and high officials of Christian churches
all over the world. Delegates of great religions from Africa and Asia
participants into international meeting "Men and Religions" were also
present there. In teaching words along mass as well as in messages from the
end of mass into which Romania's President Emil Constantinescu has also
taken part Romania's patriarch Teoctist, patriarch Petros of Alexandria and
of the whole Africa, cardinal Cassidy representative of Sovereign Pontiff,
as well as representatives of Eastern Orthodox and Anglicans and Andrea
Riccardi from Community Sant'Egidio have spoken about mission of this
meeting from Bucharest for fulfiling truth and devine justice. RADOR,
