[01] Extraordinary meeting of government
Extraordinary meeting of executive body has just finished. On agenda there
were among othersdraft bill concerning organizaton and functioning of
Financial Guard and that concerning regulation of transfer towards FPS
(State Ownership Fund) of trade companies' shares as a result of re-
organization of public utilities draft bills which were postponed from
previous meetings. There were also discussed draft bills concerning change
of some articles from Law 84/1992 concerning conditions of free zones and
establishment of special conditions for activity of international maritime
transport. It was also analysed draft law concerning regulation of
situation referring to goods which were confiscated, without heir or master,
conditions and procedures of transmission with free title of those goods
which have entered in private state property. RADOR, August 25
[02] Daniel Daianu about rectification of the budget
Referring to near debates concerning rectification of the budget Minister
of Finance Daniel Daianu has specified this rectification aims maintaining
budget deficit " in a proximal neighbouring" of target assumed by executive
body at the beginning of 1998. Daniel Daianu has also said it is intended
achievment of a meeting with leaders of big trade-unions. RADOR, August

[03] General warning strike in units affiliated to National Confederative
Central Office of Mining Trade-Unions from Romania
In connected, geological and mining units affiliated to National
Confederative Central Office of Mining Trade-Unions from Romania general
warning strike went on Monday with stopping activity for 24 hours. Strike
was started in the morning. According to Central office leader Marin
Condescu the main claims are connected with unfulfilment of responsibilities
which government had assumed one year ago concerning re- organization of
mining industry. RADOR, August 25
[04] Not all mining unions are on strike
Confederacy of Trade-Unions from Mining Industry Maramures announced during
Monday morning no mining unit from counties Maramures, Satu-Mare, Bistrita-
Nasaud and Suceava subordinated to National Company of Precious and Non-
Ferrous Metals REMIN Baia Mare are not on strike. In a statement
confederacy appears profound dissatisfied with points of view of leader of
National Confederacy of Mining Trade-Unions Marin Codescu and appreciates
special problems existing in mining system have to be solved by
negotiations starting strike being only a last form of trade-union
manifestation. RADOR, August 25
[05] Gheorghe Trutulescu remains in arrest
Military Appeal Court rejected today appeals handed over by former SPP
(Guard and Protection Service) colonel Gheorghe Trutulescu and by Gheorghe
Stelian because they were considered not well founded. Appeals were against
prolongation of measure of detention on suspicion. As a result of this
decision the two will remain in arrest at least till September 4. Also
today Military Appeal Court admitted appeal of former commander of Military
Airport Otopeni colonel Ioan Suciu and annuled decision for prolongation of
his detention on suspicion considering it null. However instance has not
pronounced about setting free of colonel Suciu. RADOR, August 25
[06] Visit to Romania of delegation of American parliamentary member
experts
Delegation of American parliamentary member experts in visit to Romania was
received on Monday by secretari of state in MAE (Foreign Affairs Ministry)
Razvan Ungureanu. Discussion between the two sides was concentrated upon
type of co-operation between legislative bodies of United States and of
Romania, foreign politics of Bucharest and its way of relating to severe
politic realities from the region, Romania's stability and Romanian-
American strategic partnership. RADOR, August 25
[07] Statement of US ambassador at Bucharest James Rosapepe
Monday informative bulletin of US Embassy at Bucharest contains a statement
of ambassador James Rosapepe addressed to American citizens who are
residents in Romania. In statement it is stressed American interests abroad
are during these days and weeks face to face with a threatening increasing
level from terrorist organizations which can try to attack again. US State
Department has declared an alert on international plan asking American
citizens who are travelling or are residents abroad to take care of
themselves and American diplomatic offices take adequate security measures.
