[01] Meeting of PD Executive Bureau
The meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Democratic Party was held on
Wednesday and on this occasion the leadership of the party reassessed its
relations with the partners from the guvernamental coalition. The meeting
ended with a speech of the PD leader, Petre Roman. Before the National
Convention of the PD, which will take place in the town of Iasi at the end
of this month, Mr Petre Roman announced that the most important document
will be a resolution. The resolution will present the PD principles
regarding its relations with the allies in the coalition. PD is not content
becaAse it is not treated at a draw like the other parties from the
coalition, especially like the National Peasant-Christian Democratic Party
(PNTCD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL). PD also announced it is going
to present at the National Convention five programmes includin a
legislative one, which double through the draft laws everything was
presented till now by Ciorbea Cabinet to the Parliament. RADOR, August 21
[02] PNL-CD press conference
The President of the PNL-CD (National Liberal Pary - Democratic Convention),
Niculae Cerveni, declared at the press conference, held on Wednesday, that
the Court of Law in Bucharest validated the merging of the PNL-CD with
PL'93 (Liberal Party). The liberal leader added that PNL-CD is in
opposition neither with the Democratic Convention (CD), nor with Ciorbea's
Government. Although Niculae Cerveni admmitted the differences between the
policy led by the present state power and the one of PNL-CD. He also added
that the differences did not put tAe PNL-CD in opposition. Regarding the
clearing off process of some economic units, the leader of the PL'93, Horia
Rusu said that the first step should be the privatisation of the industrial
units and then the reorganization. RADOR, August 21
[03] The Gendarmerie - an order force
On Wedsneday began the debates of the seminar "Prevention of Violence in
Intercommunity Relations. The Role of the Gendarmerie as an Order Force".
The seminar was oraganized by the Government and the Interior Ministry and
its guests included representatives of the minorities in Romania and
representives of the Hungarian Gendarmerie. On the occasion, Mr Klaus
Fabrizius, State Secretary of the National Minority Protection Department
declared: "The main purpose of this seminar is to bring at the same table
the represtatives of the order forces and the organizations of the national
minorities, but first of all the representatives of the Rromani minority,
which have the most social problems". RADOR, August 21
[04] Press conference at the Finance Ministry
Finance Minister Mircea Ciumara and Financial Guard Commander Corneliu
Gorcea declared they were leading an activity in all the counties of the
country in order to evaluate the situation of the events after the
unjustifiable price growth of edible oil and other food products. After the
investigation, a governmental order will be examinated today by the
Executive, in order to put an end to this phenomenom as the competition is

[05] Clearing Off the "Olimpus" S.A. Mangalia Company
It has been decided the clearing off through division of the "Olimpus" S.A.
company and in the same time the dismissal of its general manager. The
clearing off process of the company was harder than expecte. It has been
decided that the clearing off procedure of the "Olimpus" S.A. be made by
dividing the company into three commercial companies. Their activities will
include agriculture, tourism and food products. RADOR, August 21
[06] Delegation Af Bell Helicopters Textron visiting Romania
Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea met, at the Victoria Palace, a delegation of
businessmen led by Webb Joyner, Chairman of the Board of Bell Helicopters
Textron, who reiterated the American interest in the construction of
military helicopters "Dracula" at IAR Brasov as it is mentioned in a
statement released by the Press Bureau of the Government. RADOR, August

[07] Chinese-Romanian cooperation
A delegation of the Romanian Ministry of Waters, Woods and Environment
Protection will visit China between August 20-28 in order to strenghten the
relationship between the two countries on environmental issues. In an
interview Ioan Oltean, Minister for Waters, Woods and Enviroment Protection
declared the visit takes place as an initiatve of His Excellency Zen Zuan,
Administrator of the National Agency for Environment Protection in China.
The main objective of this meeting is the signing of a cooperation
agreement between the two ministies concerningAthe enviroment protection.
