[01] Clarifications Made by the Press Bureau of the Romanian Government
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI said it had received a fax in which Romanian
Government's Press Bureau made clarifications about the specific steps
taken by the Executive on liquidating enterprises with great losses. The
Press Bureau adds that it must be understood that closure is the only way
in cases in which the national economy cannot bare any more losses. By
these closures, the goverment protects those economic areas which can still
take the regular course of market economy. RADOR, August 11
[02] PUNR Communique
ROMPRES News Agency received a communique from the PUNR (Romanian National
Unity Party) branch in Cluj district, after its reunion on Saturday,
atteAded by the party leader Valeriu Tabara. The communique asked the
country's president to preside right away upon an extraordinary Cabinet
meeting on law violations, extremist and chauvinistic actions of forced
assimilation of Romanians in Transylvania and instigation to ethnic
conflicts allegedly commited by the UDMR (the Hungarian ethnic party in
Romania) leaders. The state leader and the prime minister are asked to keep
up with their promisses to go to Harghita, Covasna and Mures districts to
see for themselves the situation there. The Prosecutor-general is asked to
take action against forced and illegal change of names into Hungarian and
the dismissal of mayors or deputy mayors representing USMD, who violated
the Constitution and laws of the country. RADOR,August 11
[03] Romanian Agriculture Ministry - Preoccupied with this year's crop
Romanian agriculture minister Dinu Gavrilescu said he could not say what
kind of endowment in agricultural tools could the state provide. He spoke
abAut the existence of organising systems specific to different areas,
which are functioning properly. Dinu Gavrilescu said that, this year, the
wheat crop slightly higher and that the acquisition system has been

[04] Protests in front of the Prahova District Council Office in Ploiesti
In Ploiesti, employees from PETROTEL and VEGA state enterprises decided to
continue to mark out the District Council Office, giving up other forms of
protest. Their action is meant to warn to the administration, on the eve of
Monday's meeting in Victoria Palace (the headquarters of the government).
According to sources within the District Council, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI
(August 19, 13:00 hours) said that, on Sunday, below one hundred protestors
were in front of the building and that the situation was calm. RADOR,

[05] Stockholm: international manifestations on water administration
Two international manifestations take place in Stockholm: the eighth
International CongressAon Water Sources and the third Conference on water
administration in closed seas. Octavian Ceachir, executive in Water, Forest
and Environment Protection, who represented Romania, told RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI that Romania has been selected to present the study
"Interaction between water administration in Romania and the Black Sea".
Octavian Ceachir hopes that by attending these two manifestations in Sweden
Romania will make itself remarked on water administration. RADOR, August

[06] Weather in Romania
Weather in Romania will be unstable and rainy. Heavy rains are forecast in
most of the country, in Muntenia and Transylvania especially. Temperatures
will range from 8 centigades in the morning to 25 centigrades at noon.
