The U^K and the Bujku newspaper accused the Serb security of being behind
the killing of Hyzri Talla, an U^K officer, Afrim Maliqi, a journalist with
the Bujku newspaper, and Ilir Durmishi, a student
PRISHTINA, Dec 3 (KIC) - Three Albanians were shot down in downtown
Prishtina, capital of Kosova, while travelling in a car opposite the
University of Prishtina students; dormitories just past 17:00 hrs on
Wednesday.
Hyzri Talla (1963), an U^K officer from Podujeva, Afrim Maliqi (1965),
journalist with the Bujku newspaper, and Ilir Durmishi (1967), a university
student, were gunned down when unknown persons shot opened automatic fore
on their Renault 19 car from both sides of the road. A bystander woman,
Tefta Isufaj, was wounded, eye- witnesses said.
The Office of the Political Representative of the Ushtria ^lirimtare e
Kosov&s (U^K, Kosova Liberation Army) confirmed at noon today (Thursday)
the killing of the U^K officer and the two Albanian civilians. They were
killed by the Serbian security, the U^K said. The Bujku newspaper also said
the Serb security was probably behind the killing of the Albanians.
The Serbian police said in a statement three Albanians were killed in their
car when unidentified persons fired on their Renault 19 car in the Bregu i
Diellit neighbourhood in Prishtina.
The three killed Albanians were to be buried Thursday afternoon.
A commemorative meeting was held in the Bujku newspaper's offices in the
Press Palace in Prishtina on Thursday on the occasion of the killing of
Afrim Maliqi, a journalist with the culture section of the Bujku newspaper.
Participating in the meeting were also Xhemail Mustafa, press advisor to
President Ibrahim Rugova of Kosova, the KIC head Enver Maloku, as well as
representatives of the Kosova Journalists Union.
The Bujku editor-in-chief, Binak Kelmendi, paid homage to the killed
journalist and accused the Serb regime for the killing.
Afrim Maliqi's colleagues said he had told them he was being closely
watched by the Serb secret police.
The culture sector of the Bujku newspaper will sorely miss Afrim Maliqi,
whose essays on cultural and political topics had revealed him to be a
prominent writer of distinguished critical and discursive values, Ismail
Syla, a colleague of his said. "Albanians are being killed in the mountains,
in fronts, on the streets, in the cities" in Kosova, Syla said, adding that
the killing of the intellectual, the killing of the man who dedicated his
life to the cultural illumination is felt with the deepest emotions.
