The return of emigrants to Greece begins

SARANDE, Jan 2 (ATA)- By Sh. Hajno, The return of the Albanian emigrants to the island of Corfu and other Greek regions, began on Saturday through "Kaliopi" and "Violeta" ferries of Saranda-Corfu line. They had arrived a few days ago to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

According to the commandant of the police of Saranda port, Haki Koshi, over 100 Albanian emigrants, employed in Greece, turned back through ferries on Saturday.

Some 2000 emigrants are expected to leave through this port within the first days of the next week, said Koshi. The border police of the port, for this reason, has taken precautions to eliminate gatherings and long queues.

Sources from the port police pointed out that the last year the number of the emigrants that came to celebrate year's end feasts was greater than the influx of this year. According to them the agitated sea conditions of the last two days made many of them cancel their trips to Albania.

The influx of the returns is expected to be greater during the days that will follow. /lh/so/

[04] Year 2000: Albanian Bank credit for Albanian government to amount to 6, 9 billion leks

TIRANE, Jan 2 (ATA)- By E.Metaj, The Bank of Albania, during 2000, may earmark over 6,9 billion leks to the Government.

In this way the Bank surpasses expectations of the Ministry of Finance on the incomes and budgetary expenditures, according to which the credit for the government will be of 4,3 billion leks worth.

According to Albanian Central Bank sources, the increase of the credit is based on the law "On the Albanian Bank", according to which the new credit given to the government for a determinate year amounts to 5% of the general average incomes of the three previous years, and in extraordinary conditions it amounts to 8%.

During 2000 it is envisaged to be realized an economic increase of 8%, the limit of inflation by the end of the year will reach 3%, reserves currency will have the value of imports of 4,3 months, and the deficit of the current account will be at the limit of 9% in proportion to the Gross Domestic Product.

The Bank of Albania, based on these objectives, has drafted its monetary programme, where an increase of 10% of the money evaluation is defined. This increase is envisaged to be sufficient to meet the budget demands during the next year for financing, to keep currency reserves to the asked levels and to create spaces to expand credit for the private sector of economy. /lh/so/
