    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA) - Albanian President Rexhep Meidani hailed Albanian people on the occasion of the National Independence day, at a reception held at the Palace of Brigades in Tirana on Sunday.

    President Meidani, at the presence of state senior authorities, representatives of the Albanian political parties and the diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana, wished the Albanian people November 29 as well, the day of Liberation of Fatherland from Nazi fascist invaders.

    "Let us pay tribute to the memory of the greatest figures of Independence and martyrs of liberation war. As President of the Republic and as a simple Albanian of the Albanian family I totally join all Albanian brothers wherever they are, and share with them the happiness of the Independence day and pray for the prosperity and progress of Albania and the Albanian nation", Meidani said. /dast/so/

    [02] Pavilion of icons inaugurated at National Historic Museum

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)- By K.Shehu, The first pavilion of icons in Tirana, located in the premises of the National Historic Museum was inaugurated on Sunday afternoon in the framework of November 28 celebrations, the Independence Day.

    Some 80 icons have been placed in this pavilion, works of the most renowned representatives of the Albanian iconographic art such as Onufri, Onufer Qiprioti, David Selenica, Brothers Zeografi, Kostandin Shpataraku, Mihal Anagnosti, Brothers Çetiri and others.

    All this collection, to be renovated continuously, has been selected by the fund of the Institute of Monuments of Culture.

    The pavilion of Iconographic art has been conceited as a big church. At the end of the hall has been placed an original iconostasis of XIX century, about 13 meters long, while at the entrance there is a metallic door realized with floral motives by the specialists of the Institute of Monuments.

    Present at the ceremony of the inauguration were the Albanian President Rexhep Meidani, Premier Meta representatives of the government cabinet, renowned figures of art and culture. /dast/so/

    [03] Meta asks to respect institutional responsibilities

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA) - Albanian Premier Ilir Meta on Sunday asked from ministers of his cabinet that no one speculates with institutional responsibilities.

    "There are no independent bodies in the chaotic and anarchic sense. We all depend on Albania's Constitution", said Meta.

    Meta, basing on some charges published about members of the government, urged Minister of Defence Luan Hajdaraga to present to President of the Republic the formal request to dismiss General Aqif Çikalleshi and discharge him from all Army structures.

    The Premier asked from Minister of Public Order Spartak Poci to discharge from all structures of Public Order the head of the police department in Berat Hasan Ahmataj, who held a press conference several days ago in the local premises of the Ministry of Order, without knowledge of the head of Ministry.

    Meta threatened to dismiss all ministers who do not manage to secure institutional order within their ministries.

    Meta asked the Prosecutor's Office to continue performance and give up individual rancours.

    "The duty of the Prosecutor's office should not be carried out through newspapers".

    The Albanian Premier said that what he wishes is not the confrontation but cooperation between institutions. /dast/so/

    [05] IFAD starts project for agriculture development in Southeastern Albania

    KORCE, Nov 29 (ATA)- By B.Fejzullai, The U.N. International Fund of Agriculture Development, IFAD-3 began a project for the development of agriculture in the mountainous areas of Korca.

    This projects aims to improve infrastructure in the mountainous areas, rehabilitate roads, irrigation system and others, the head of the district agriculture department, Fehmi Xhemo told ATA.

    The International Fund of Agriculture Development, IFAD-3 will provide about US$ 18 million to realize this project which will be implemented in all mountainous areas of the Southeastern districts of the country. /dast/so/

    [06] Senior state officials pay homage to Martyrs Graves

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)- Eva Londo,

    Senior state officials paid homage, at the Nation's Martyrs Graves, to 28 000 martyrs who laid down their lives in the war against Nazi-fascist invasion.

    President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani placed the first wreath at "Mother Albania" monument during the commemorative ceremony, under the tunes of the Army Wind Band.

    Representatives of the Parliament Presidency, Council of Ministers, Government of Kosova, veterans as well as representatives of prefecture, municipality and the Socialist Party paid homages to Martyrs' Graves following Meidani.

    Representatives of the Foreing embassies accredited in Albania also paid tribute to the Martyrs of the Antifascist National Liberation War. /dast/so/

    [07] Soccer, Tirana-Kosova 2-0

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA) - Soccer players from Tirana and Kosova teams played on Sunday afternoon a friendly match at Prishtina stadium, in the framework of the National Independence Day celebrations.

    [08] Solemn meeting on 55th anniversary of Albania's liberation

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-The blood of the Antifascist National- Liberation (AFNLW) is the foundation of the new democratic state.

    This was the message of the solemn meeting on the 55th anniversary of the Liberation of Albania, which gathered the Albanian state senior authorities at the Palace of Congresses in Tirane.

    President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani, Speaker of Parliament Skender Gjinushi, Premier Ilir Meta, politicians, representatives of the Kosova government and veterans of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War met to commemorate the war against the Nazi-fascist occupation, to commemorate the fallen and their heroism.

    Premier Meta, who greeted the participants on behalf of the Albanian government, said that the historic content of the AFNLW should serve Albania's progress, its integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures.

    "In the foundations of the new democratic state lays the blood of the AFNLW, but also the blood of the policemen killed during the last ten years, in defence of the Albanian state," he said.

    Emotional was the greeting by the oldest veteran of the AFNLW, Et'hem Berrhani, who brought to the memory of his fellow fighters significant moments from this war. /era/lm/

    [09] Army armed forces celebrate 55th anniversary of liberation

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-By E. Koraqi, The Albanian Army forces on Monday celebrated the 55th anniversary of the liberation of the homeland from the Nazi-fascist occupiers.

    Present at the ceremony organised at the "Scanderbeg" Military Academy were President Rexhep Meidani, Speaker of Parliament Skender Gjinushi, Premier Ilir Meta, Defence Minister Luan Hajdaraga, other members of the government cabinet as well as authorities from foreign embassies in Tirane.

    In his greeting address, the Commander of the Albanian Armed forces, Rexhep Meidani, said that the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War of the Albanian people as well as the life laid down by Albania's sons and daughters testified to the highest values of our nation's spirit, to the inextinguished desire to be free as well as to the unity of the Albanians to resolve the great historic problems.

    The motto of mobilisation in the Anti-Fascist National-Liberation Army without distinction of religion, region and idea, today remains a way of action for the unification of the Albanian nation," said Meidani.

    On the day of the 55th anniversary of the country's liberation, the president highly evaluated the role of the Kosova Liberation Army, which became the carrier of the patriotic tradition of Kosova and representative of aspirations for freedom.

    The ceremony on the 55th anniversary of Albania's liberation was later associated with a parade of the army as well as a physical-military manifestation. /led/lm/

    [10] Albanian consulate in Ioannina commemorates November 28, 29

    IOANNINA, Nov 29 (ATA)-By E. Serjani, The Independence day of Albania, November 28, and the day of Liberation from the Nazi-fascists, November 29, were commemorated also in the Greek city of Ioannina on Sunday afternoon.

    The General Council of Albania in Ioannina, Ilirian Zhupa, on the occasion of the 87th anniversary of the raise of the Flag in Vlore, and on the 55th anniversary of liberation, gave a reception for the Greek local authorities, Albanian emigrants with temporary residence and employment in the northern region of Greece and the local authorities of the southern districts of Albania.

    The ceremony was held at the fortress of Litharica, at the seat of Ali Pashe Tepelena, a place which has hospitable to Lord Byron, Francoise Pouquevil (general council of the Empire and later of the French kingdom in Ioannina and Patras) as well as representatives of the European diplomacy of the past century.

    Zhupa greeted the participants on this occasion and wished that "the next century blesses the Balkan peoples with peace". /led/lm/

    [11] Albania becomes full member of Inter-governmental Francophone Agency

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-By E. Londo, Albania on Monday was accepted full right member of the Inter-governmental Francophone Agency, sources from the Albanian Foreign Ministry report.

    The Inter-ministerial Conference of the Francophone Organisation started proceedings at the international conference hall "Kleber" in Paris on Monday.

    The Albanian delegation present at this activity is headed by Foreign Minister Paskal Milo. Albania was admitted as full right member in this agency at the beginning of the conference proceedings.

    Milo hailed the Francophone community for this further manifestation of the political will of this organisation to include Albania in all the projects and programmes of the Francophone countries family. /led/lm/

    [12] Parade of Albanian Army on November 29

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-By E. Koraqi, The ceremonial parade of the Albanian Army units and the physical-military manifestation were the two main aspects of the manifestation at the Military Academy "Scanderbeg" on Monday, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Liberation of Albania.

    The parade included all kinds of ground, sea and air forces which also included two formations of war veterans.

    Also included were the Military Academies. Six MIG 19 planes of the Air-fleet also took part in an air manifestation.

    [13] Albanian militaries trained in Information and Communication

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-By E. Koraqi, The course for training Albanian Army Public relations officers in information and communication has been completed in Spiez of Switzerland, sources from the Defence Ministry told ATA on Monday.

    The course, which also included several journalists, was part of the projects for military cooperation between the two armies, members of the Partnership for Peace Initiative.

    This has been the second Swiss training course on Information for Albanian militaries. The continuing projects of Swiss assistance also envisage a logistic support with technical and electronic equipment in the field of communication. /led/lm/

    [14] Exhibition on Anti-fascist War inaugurated

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)- By K.Shehu, The exhibition under the topic of Anti-fascist National Liberation War was inaugurated on Monday afternoon, at the National Historic Museum in Tirana, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Liberation of Homeland.

    Present at the inauguration ceremony were President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani, Parliament's Speaker Skender Gjinushi, state senior officials and ex-partisans of the Anti-fascist War.

    The exhibition inaugurated today is the basis of the ANLW pavilion, closed eight years ago, and is thought to be raised again in May of 2000, far from politicization and ideologies, to prevent recycling of parties in power from damaging its existence.

    The historic concept of the exhibition, rendered through real and original objects and facts possessed by the Historic Museum and donated by martyrs' families as well, speaks of a War without distinction of religion, region or Party. /led/so/

    [15] France is interested in Albania's integration into Eur.-Atlantic structures - Vedrine

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine met with his Albanian counterpart Paskal Milo in Paris on Monday and expressed the interest of the French Government in Albania's integration into Euro- Atlantic structures.

    "The French government is interested in seeing Albania in the role of an active partner in the developments of the fight against crime, corruption and of fast integration into the Eur.- Atlantic structures," said Vedrine.

    He pledged France's support for Albania in all fields, expressing the desire that, the European organisations, too, "show the same readiness to increasingly include Albania into the integrating courses".

    Milo expressed the readiness of the Albanian government to continue efforts for the Eur.- Atlantic integration of Albania and familiarised the French counterpart with the priorities of the Albanian government to integrate the country into the Stability Pact processes, to restore public order and fight crime and corruption. /led/lm/

    [16] PM Meta meets with Abdurrahman Haliti

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)-Albanian Premier Ilir Meta on Monday met with Abdurrahman Haliti, chairman of the Party for Democratic Prosperity of the Albanians of Macedonia and stressed the special importance the good relations among Albanians all over the regions assume in this moment.

    "Good cooperation among us will ensure a greater spiritual union among Albanians, wherever they are," said Meta.

    He said the realisation of the Stability Pact requires good relations between the two countries so that the projects of importance for the population are realised quickly and efficiently.

    Haliti portrayed the general situation in Macedonia. He underlined that a greater cooperation among the Albanian political forces, wherever they are, would be in the interest of the nation. /led/lm/

    [17] British library for Albanian children inaugurated

    TIRANE, Nov 29 (ATA)- By Ornela Kadaifciu, The British library for Albanian children named after Wales Princess "Lady Diana", on Monday evening opened the doors in the premises of the International Cultural Center in Tirane.

    Present at the inauguration ceremony were the Princess' brother Lord Spencer, Albanian President Rexhep Meidani as well as Albanian state senior officials.

    Lord Spencer said the library opened in token of respect for Princess Diana, who dedicated special solicitude to children during her whole life, as well as for the reason that Princess Diana in '98 had expressed the wish to visit Albania.

    Spencer was very pleased to visit the country of Mother Teresa, a woman with a great heart who cared for the sufferings of other people.

    "This library is a precious gift to the children, especially for bearing the name of a distinguished human figure, devoted to the whole world such as Princess Diana" said President Meidani.

    Lord Spencer unveiled the plate dedicated to the memory of Princess Diana on whose behalf the donation was made to set up this library for the education of the Albanian children.

    The British foundation "Task Force Albania" and the Albanian Organisation "Childlike smile" were the initiators for the opening of this library. /led/so/lm/
