  • [01] Albanian Government to assist families of policemen killed or wounded while on duty

    TIRANE, Nov. 28 (ata) - The Council of Ministers adopted in Saturday's meeting a decision presented by Public Order Ministry "On the economic and financial treatment of the families of the policemen who have lost their lives or are wounded while on duty."

    According to the decision, in the cases when the families of policemen killed while on duty are homeless, they are given long term credits.

    The decision also stipulates that the children of the killed policemen can continue secondary or university studies with scholarships paid by the state.

    Likewise, with the adoption of the Ministry of Health and the Public Order Ministry, also the policemen wounded while on duty and the members of their families, are sent abroad if they need to be diagnosed or medically treated there. In this case everything, the visa, the travel, the diagnostication, the medical treatment are paid by the state. /xh/

    [02] Festive concert in Durres to mark November celebrations

    DURRES, Nov.28 (ata) - By Gezim Kabashi: In the course of the activities being held in the context of the November celebrations, a festive concert was held in palace of culture Aleksander Moisiu in Durres to mark the Independence Day and the National Day of Albania.

    The activities organized by the city hall have started on November 26 with the symbolic flag raising ceremony in the same square where 87 years ago it was raised up by patriots of Durres.

    Since that day, homage are continuing and flowers are being placed in the Mausoleum of the Martyrs of the Nation along with visits to martyrs' families. /xh/

    [03] Hungarian Government awards three Albanian militants of Hungarian Revolution

    SHKODER, Nov. 28 (ata) - By S Geraj: On occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution, the Government of Hungary decorated as Militants of the Hungarian Revolution in Albania, Nikolin Pavaci, Ndrek Bozhdari and Karl Çefa.

    The ceremony was held on Saturday in one of the halls of Rozafa Hotel in Shkoder in the presence of the Hungarian Ambassador in Tirane, Sandor Masazares, representatives of the formerly persecuted associations of Tirana and Shkodra.

    Attending the ceremony were also the mayor of Shkoder, Bahri Borici, the chairman of the formerly persecuted association, Tanush Mulleti and the chairman of the association of Shkoder, Cuf Jonuzi.

    The Hungarian Ambassador said in the name of his government that the Revolution of 1956 was important not only for the Hungarian state but also for other countries of the region."

    Testimony to this is also the revolutionary pro-Hungarian activity of the three awarded who were arrested in 1957 under the charges of advocating the anti-soviet ideas, the Hungarian revolution in Albania, and were sentenced with 12-15 imprisonment terms. /xh/

    [05] Earthquake tremors in Albania

    TIRANE, Nov. 28 (ata) - The seismological network of Albania close to the Seismological Institute of the Academy of Sciences, registered on Nov.28, 1999 at 02 a.m. (local time) an earthquake of 4.2 points on the Richter scale.

    The preliminary epicenter has been localized 35-40 km northeast of Tirane, the zone of Klos-Bulqize.

    The quake was felt 4-5 points (EMS-92) in the city of Kruja, 4 points in Tirane, Durres, Vore, Burrel, Librazhd and 3-4 points in Elbasan and Shkoder. There are no reports of damages in the above-mentioned zones. /led/xh/

    [06] About 38 thousand EURO on a project for crossborder cooperation

    KORCE, Nov. 28 (ata) - By B Fejzullai: Application of a crossborder project has started between the region of Korca and Ohrid (Macedonia) financed with 38 thousand Euros by the program Kredo PHARE of the European Union, said on Sunday Aurel Grabocka, manager of the Regional Development Agency in Korce.

    According to him, the aim of the project is to boost relations in the field of business between the two cities and to draft joint projects in the fields of economy, culture, tourism, etc.

    According to him, the joint activities in the context of this project started with meetings in the cities of Korca and Ohrid between the representatives of the Regional Development Agencies, NGOs and the local government. They have discussed the economic resources of the two regions, the possibilities of cooperation and the drafting of joint projects in the field of business and trade exchanges. /xh/

    [08] Italian Government delivers 1.8 billion lira for Albanian railway lines

    DURRES, Nov. 28 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: Within January 2000, the whole telephone system on the Durres-Tirane railway will be reconstructed with a fund of 1.8 billion liras, granted by the Italian Government, sources of the General Railways Department told ATA.

    A part of this fund will be used to improve the system of signals for the trains from Tirane to Vore and to rehabilitate the infrastructure of the train station in Tirane.

    With funds by the Albanian Government and with the aid of the governments of some neigbouring countries, Albanian railways will take another view different from that of the last years. Last Saturday, Italy and Austria handed over eight other compartments which will complete the passengers wagons park with new ones. /led/xh/

    [09] Festive parade to mark 87th anniversary of Albania's Independence

    TIRANE, Nov. 28 (ata) - The Independence Day of Albania was celebrated on Sunday morning with a magnificent parade along the Boulevard Deshmoret e Konmbit in Tirana.

    Taking part in the parade which lasted 30 minutes, were the Republic Guard force accompanied by the wind band and the folk groups of Albania and Kosova which created a festive atmosphere.

    In the Scanderbeg Square, the biggest in Tirana, the President of Albania Rexhep Meidani, accompanied by Prime Minister Ilir Meta, the government cabinet and senior state officials, raised the National Flag under the tunes of the National Anthem.

    The raising of flag in the Scanderbeg Square marked the end of the formal ceremony marking the celebration of November 28, while people in the streets continued celebrating under the tunes of songs for the celebration which gave them the independence. /led/xh/

    [10] AREF to assist privatized enterprises in Albania

    TIRANE, Nov. 28 (ata) - By Dorian Koca: Albania Reconstruction Equity Fund, AREF, will take part in the reconstruction and modernization process of the privatized enterprises.

    This commitment was confirmed by representatives of this Fund in the Klik Fair which continues to be visited with interest by a lot of people in the capital.

    AREF's aims are to finance after the process of privatization of the enterprises of most profitable sectors of the Albanian economy. Among these enterprises are Ajka, the biggest company for the industrial milk production in Albania, Birra Malto, one of the oldest factories for the beer production in Tirane, Kantina, one of the biggest producers of wine and other spirits in Durres, and Profarma, the main producer of pharmaceutical products in Albania.

    Set up a few months ago, AREF has a fund of 14 million USD which is equally financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Italian Government.

    AREF will also support investments for small and medium industrial enterprises or services, which operate in Albania, be they with local or foreign ownership. /led/xh/

    [11] IFAD presents in fair projects for development of mountain zones in Albania

    TIRANE, Nov. (ata) - By M Pupa: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) which accorded to Albania a 13.2 million USD credit and nearly a 440 thousand USD grant, is presented in the Klik Fair with the main projects for the development of poor mountain zones.

    The whole IFAD project for Albania has a value of 23.2 million USD also including the rural development in four northeastern districts of Albania such as Kukes, has, Tropoje and Diber.

    The aim of the project is to introduce new financial means in these zones, such as credits and to increase the participation of inhabitants there in the production sectors. /led/xh/

    [12] Albanian, British trade exchanges total some $17 million in nine months

    TIRANE, Nov 28 (ATA)-By E. Metaj, British exports to Albania over the January-September 1999 period were around $16 million, while Albanian exports to Great Britain were $1,1 million.

    These figures were issued at a news conference by Geoff Lincoln, Councillor to British Trade International, Trade Organisation of the British Foreign Office and of the British Trade Ministry.

    The British export goods to Albania consist of machineries, engineering equipment and plastics, while Albanian exports to Great Britain consist mainly of food and textile goods.

    The representatives of the British Trade International said that the current export-import level between the two countries should increase, therefore their presence in "Fair '99" also served gathering of information by Albanian firms and made evident the fields of cooperation.

    Also, the representatives of British Trade International said that their aim will be sectorial development and the British companies will be offered the gathered information. /dast/lm/

    [14] Number of insured in INSIG in Elbasan

    ELBASAN, Nov 28 (ATA)-By M. Lulja, The number of the insured at INSIG affiliation in Elbasan has substantially increased, augmenting in this way the incomes of this agency, its director Irakli Toci, told ATA.

    This year, January-October period, this affiliation realised incomes by 102%, depositing five million leks more than the same period last year.

    The number of persons ensuring their vehicles at this affiliation this year increased to 4100 from 2100 last year. The number of secondary and high schools students insured at this affiliation has also increased. From 850 enrolled by the end of June 1999, this number has increased to 5200.

    Big enterprises, such as the Water System Enterprise, the Aqueduct, the cement factory and several plants of the Steel Complex are also insured.

    Meanwhile, the INSIG branch continues to preserve the market potential towards the SIGAL private security agency, also applying two new projects such as life insurance for the debtor and depositor. /dast/lm/

    [15] Works on Librazhd-Qukes road segment accelerated

    LIBRAZHD, Nov 28 (ATA)-By M. Lulja, Works on the construction of the Librazhd-Qukes road segments, 21.6 km long, undertaken to be built by Macedonian Firm "Mavrova", have been accelerated.

    The director of this firm, Vladimir Ivanovski, told ATA that "after works resumed on this segment, which includes the 8th Corridor, within a month we have asphalted six km of this road".

    He said that currently works are underway in three sectors: in Qukes, Dragostunj and Bushtrice. /dast/lm/
