  • [01] Aid provided for inhabitants of Tropoje border areas

    BAJRAM CURRI, Nov 20 (ATA)- By Riza Hoxha, International humanitarian association "Care International" has distributed considerable aid for the inhabitants of the border villages of Tropoja (North), sources from the district council told ATA.

    Some 1 256 families of Tropoje and 800 families of Bytyc communes have profited from this aid.

    Border villages of Tropoje district, suffered considerable damages during the period of Kosova crisis.

    After order and security were restored in Tropoja the humanitarian associations became more active in helping the inhabitants of this Northern remote area. /led/so/

    [03] Albanian government provides three million leks for curing hostage child

    TIRANE, Nov 20 (ATA)-B. Agalliu, The Albanian government has provided a three million leks of fund for the medical treatment of a child, who was injured after being taken hostage by a criminal one year ago.

    Jonida Dervishi, 18 months, from Berat, was injured one year ago, when several criminals, after committing a crime and being surrounded by the special forces, took hostage the child as a means of pressure on the police.

    As a result of the exchange of fire between the police and criminals the child lost one leg and suffered other injuries.

    Through the amount provided by the Government, the child will be treated in Italy. /led/lm/

    [04] Meidani asks increase of Italian investments in Albania

    TIRANE, Nov 20 (ATA)-Albanian President Rexhep Meidani on Saturday in Lecce, Italy, asked the increase of Italian investments in Albania, the President's press office reports.

    At a ceremony extended in honour of Albanian President, the local authorities of Lecce greeted the Albanian delegation and praised the friendly relations with Albania. The speakers stressed the need for further cooperation between the two countries.

    In his speech Meidani stressed the need of creating joint structures in the fight against criminality and asked an increase of investments from this region in Albania which so far cover nearly half of the Italian investments.

    While on the regional plane, Meidani dwelt on the end of the war in Kosova and the region, as well as on the beginning of the implementation of the Stability Pact, asking the commitment of the countries of the region to create a Balkan agreement for a free movement of people, goods and capitals. /dast/lm/

    [05] WB provides funds for applying information system in Albanian education

    TIRANE, Nov 20 (ATA) - By P.Shuteriqi: World Bank (WB) will support the project on applying information system in Albanian education through a fund of $ 300 000, the director of scientific research in the Ministry of Education and Science, Agim Minxhozi reported to ATA.

    This is a joint project of the Italian government with the education ministry, while the later has demanded a financial support for completing the informative system in Albanian education.

    In mid-December is expected to be inagurated an inner information network with real and quick data from all the education directories in the districts. /dast/A.A/

    [06] SP prepares the ground for local elections

    TIRANE, Nov. 20 (ATA) - By Eva Londo: Albanian Socialist Party gathered on Saturday its chairmen and secretaries in the districts to prepare the platform which will precede the local elections.

    SP chairman Fatos Nano demanded cooperation with party structures in the district for the correct realization of procedures guaranteeing in this way the victory of local government. /lh/A.A/

    [07] Albania's RP conditions cooperation with Government against corruption

    TIRANE, Nov. 20 (ata) - By A Haxhiu: The Republican Party conditioned on Saturday its participation in the commission anti-corruption after the invitation for cooperation that Premier Ilir Meta addressed to the opposition parties.

    The Republican Party will take part in this commission only because in the lead of it are placed representatives of the opposition, said RP chairman, Fatmir Mediu in today's news conference.

    This declaration by RP today was "less strong" as compared with the stand the previous day, when this party refused the invitation of Premier Ilir Meta to cooperate in the fight against corruption. RP had refuted the declaration for cooperation of the political grouping "Albanian United Right Wing" in which RP is a member. /lh/xh/

    [08] Senior U.S. diplomats visit Prishtina

    PRISHTINA, Nov. 20 (ata) - By B Jashari: On the eve of the visit of the United States President Bill Clinton to Kosova, the security adviser of President Clinton and diplomat Christopher Hill, U.S. former special envoy during the war in Kosova, arrived in Kosova on Saturday.

    The U.S. diplomats accompanied by the Chief of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Prishtina, Larry Rosin, met today with the Premier of Kosova, Hashim Thaci and with the Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosova, Ibrahim Rugova.

    After the meetings, PM Thaci appreciated the visit of the U.S. diplomats, Dobis and Hill, considering it as very important on the eve of the visit of President Clinton in Kosova. "We talked of some questions which are very important for the present situation in Kosova, the state of security and the political one," said Thaci. He stressed that they had talked on the "Kosova Defence Corps", the possibilities for financing, including also those from the U.S., the problem of divided Mitrovica and Rahovec, the release of Albanian hostages held in Serb prisons and the possibility of holding elections and co-governing with UNMIK. /lh/xh/

    [09] Co-habitation of Balkan peoples, factor for a peaceful region

    TIRANE, Nov. 20 (ata0 - By Enkelejda Koraqi: Co-habitation and cooperation among Balkan countries is an important factor for a lasting peace and for the implementation of the Stability Pact was the main point of the discussion on the second day of the 5th International Conference of the Albanian Atlantic Association.

    Foreign and Albanian speakers in the conference focused on the concrete commitment of the Balkan countries to the future of the region.

    According to the A.A.A president, Alfred Moisiu, the aim of the conference was to treat the problems on the future of Kosova, to bring to evidence the role of NATO in the solution of the crisis and to consider the future co-habitation among various ethnic groups in Kosova.
