  • [01] Regional Center of Gender training opened in Tirane

    TIRANE, August 14 (ATA) - By Klotilda Biēaku: Gender regional Center opened in Tirane. Its main aim is the delivery of assistance to the Albanian and Kosovar women, Edlira Muhedini, coordinator in Women Center told ATA on Friday.

    This new office started its activity with a week-long training on violence, where participating was a group of Albanian and Kosove women. The above mentioned source reports that coming thesis to be treated by this center are the following: the acquaintance with the human rights, the rights of children and women, violence, trauma and its treating, financial administration and management, as well as the acquaintance and use of media.

    The opening of this office is one of the major projects of Women Center in Albania on the eve of 2000.

    The project foresees training with Albanian specialists, training with specialist from different regional organizations and the like. /dast/A.A/

No one seems to feel abandoned or without support now that the politicians have left their offices, from where they try to decide the fate of Albanian people. - "Meksi: Assembly to elect the chairmanship". This was the pronouncement of ex-democratic party Premier, Aleksander Meksi. -"Tirane Law court be dissolved". Prosecutor of September 14 gives the "bomb" declaration on dissolving of Tirane Law court.

    [04] Boēka say American assistance - a necessity for Albanian army

    TIRANE, August 14 (ATA) - By E.Koraqi: "The American assistance is necessary for Albanian army, especially now after the humanitarian crises", said Defence Deputy Minister, Ilir Boēka, during a meeting he held with US secretary for peace and humanitarian issues, James Schear.

    "The restructuring of armed forces is our main duty, and that is the reason why we are working to make them protect the democracy values", said Boēka.

    Albanian Deputy Minister of Defence expressed his concern on the existence of some hectares of mined earth in southern Albania and asked Mr. Schear for assistance of American specialists for elimination of this problem.

    James Schear and American Defence Department are reviewing the possibility of assistance in stabilization of social situation after the crises in Albania. NATO will continue to stay in Albania even after the crises in Kosove, added Schear.

    At the end, Mr. Schear insured the leaders of Albanian defence ministry on continuation of common cooperation in this field. /dast/A.A/

    [05] Premier Majko concludes his visit in Kosove

    PRISTINE, August 14 (ATA) - The Premier of Albanian government, Pandeli Majko, finished his visit in Kosove and left Saturday for Tirane accompanied by the delegation He chairs, sources from Kosove told ATA on Saturday.

    Albanian high-ranking delegation visited Saturday morning the families of Jashari heroes in Prekaz, Drenice.

    Premier Majko was generously welcomed by Albanian people of Kosove.

    Albanian Premier walked in the "Mother Teresa" main square of Pristine on Friday evening accompanied by the delegation he leads, and was hailed by thousands of Kosovars who chanted "Majko-Thaēi, Albania- Kosove".

    In the meeting held on Friday with the Premier of Interim Kosove government, Hashim Thaēi, Majko considered as prior-hand importance the continuous cooperation between Tirane and Pristine. He highlighted that the opening of an Albanian mission in Pristine would serve to this aim. This idea was supported even by Kosove Premier, Hashim Thaēi. The cooperation between Tirane and Pristine should be spread in all fields, said Majko, by expressing his willingness on sending Albanian experts in support of Kosove.

    Premier Majko expressed his concern regarding the latest events in Mitrovice and asked for a careful management of the situation with the international authorities in Pristine. /dast/A.A/

    [06] First five patients of solar eclipse in Elbasan

    ELBASAN, August 14 (ATA)-By M. Luja, The natural phenomenon of solar eclipse, of whose danger was much spoken by the local and foreign press, has caused problems also in Elbasan city.

    The first five patients have been examined by the oculist at the central clinic over the last two last days as they have eye problems, after watching the eclipse without defensive means, oculist Sami Kulla told ATA.

    The age of the patients varies from 18 to 25. One of them, according to Kulla, has serious problems with the eye retina, also risking loss of sight, while the four others are continuing the proper medical treatment, whose the results will be seen in the next days. /dast/lm/

    [07] Police seize 18 tons of ferro-chrome in Mat

    TIRANE, August 14 (ATA)-By U. Bajrami, The Burrel police on Friday seized and blocked another amount of ferro-chrome in Komsi village, Mat district, the Public Order Ministry press office told ATA.

    It said the police checked several private houses in Komsi, near the ferro-chrome plant. They blocked 18 tons of ferrochrome. Later this amount was collected and stored near the respective plant.

    Several days ago, at the beginning of this operation, the local police seized and blocked another amount of 50 tons of ferro-chrome, hidden in the warehouse of the district's former forest enterprise.

    The source explains that the value of the ferro-chrome gathered by the police is estimated at $7 560 000. /s.sh/lm/

    [08] Police destroy 4000 roots of narcotic plants

    VLORE, August 14 (ATA)-By H. Koci, Over the last two days the anti-drug police forces of the Vlore police department have destroyed a total of 4000 roots of narcotic plants (cannabis sativa) in the villages of Karbunare, Armen and Treblove of this district, the spokesman of the police department confirmed.

    He said that 13 persons have been denounced and their files will soon be sent to the prosecutor's office for further investigation. These areas are known for the cultivation of narcotic plants, which, through certain persons, are gathered and sold in Italy.

    These operations have been earlier organised in the villages of Vlore River, those of Llakatund and in Kanine, where the police forces have destroyed around 33 000 narcotic plants and have denounced some dozens of persons. /lh/lm/

    [09] Albanian state will keep supporting Kosova - Meidani

    TIRANE, August 14 (ATA)-President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani assured the Prime Minister of Kosova Interim Government, Hashim Thaci, of Albanian state's support for education, particularly for the Prishtine University, and other economic and social domains, at a meeting in Durres on Saturday.

    The president's office reports that Thaci after thanking the Albanian people and state for the hospitality extended during the humanitarian crisis, familiarised the Albanian head of state with the relations between the Kosova Interim Government and UNMIK, OSCE and KFOR, which Thaci considered as "relations of mutual cooperation to be further promoted".

    The situation in Mitrovice was as well as the centre of Meidani-Thaci meeting. Thaci told the President that in the Serb occupied part of Mitrovice there is a heavy presence of paramilitary forces of Serb services, which stir up tensions with the aim to divide the city, which "we will not allow".

    Meidani suggested continuation of cooperation with the international institutions present in Kosova.

    Thaci also showed interest in the joint projects and their development, especially in the Durres-Morine road. He also renewed the invitation to President Meidani to visit Kosova in a near future. /lh/lm/

    [10] Credit for 15 families losing their houses in pyramid schemes

    BERAT, August 14 (ATA)-By I. Manka, State credit will benefit fifteen families in Berat which lost their houses in pyramid schemes, Mayor Milika Jaho told ATA.

    She said that the municipality council examined the requests of 177 persons and, based on the fund approved by the government, decided to provide with flats only 15 families.

    Jaho explains that the earmarked fund, which will be given to these families in the form of a credit, is over 15 million leks.

    The municipality of Berat has asked from the Government another fund for this contingent of families and we believe that it will be given soon at the same amount, concluded Jaho. /lh/lm/
