[07] Problem with 150 thousand tons of iron-nickel ore in sea port of Durres solved

DURRES, August 12 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: The "quarrel" which continued for one year between the port of Durres and the Regional Agency of Environment for the evacuation of 150 tons of iron-nickel ore stock for ten years in the territory of the port was finally solved.

The chairman of the Regional Agency for Environment in Durres, Ilir Qesja, told ATA that after the analysis made to the mineral, it resulted that it does not represent any risk of pollution for the environment. In these conditions, the Agency opened the green light to the evacuation of this amount from the port to another appropriate place.

During this year when the port of Durres and the Regional Agency for Environment had not yet solved the problem, considerable amounts of the iron-nickel in Durres was illegally transferred to urban spots such as along the road from Durres to Shkozet, in the zone of Plepa, etc.

Now the sea port is allowed to remove the great amount of iron-nickel ore from its territory, thus meeting one of the conditions put by the World Bank, which has accorded a total of USD23 million to modernize the port of Durres. /dast/xh/
