Manka,Judges in Berat express themselves in favour of changing the law of the Penal Code and Penal Procedure on cases of serious injuries. More than 120 serious injuries have occurred in the last eight years in this district, the spokesman of the Berat Police Department told ATA. Over 90.5 % of them do not figure either in the local prosecutor's files nor in the district court, the spokesman said. Often the persons responsible for injuries have continued with other crimes, a part of which have ended in murders. According to the penal legislation enforced several years ago, the serious injuries are followed by the police and prosecutor's office only on the basis of the complaint or indictment by the crime-affected side and the prosecutor's office continues the penal procedure only if the serious injury causes the death of the person. Judges, crime experts in police and jurists in general in the district are supporting the idea of changing the law on serious injuries. The prosecutor's office should necessarily start legal proceeding even when the affected side does not want it, says lawyer Argjir Cuko, who adds that often those who cause the serious injuries, put pressure on the victim, even resort to other threats in order to avoid indictment on the part of the victim. There have been also many cases when the affected persons have been offered money to cover the crime. /pas/lm/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[12] Around 950 Kosovars start Sunday from Mjede towards their landsSHKODER, July 4 (ATA)-By M.
