  • [01] Together we have embarked on the road of building a peaceful Kosova

    -Clinton addresses letter to Meidani-

TIRANE, June 19 (ATA)-President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani has recently received a letter from U.S. President Bill Clinton, who appreciates the support received by the Albanian government and people on the Kosova issue, according to the President's press office.

"Our goals on Kosova have been considerably supported by the warm and profound support received from the Albanian government and people. I am proud that together we have embarked on a new road towards building a peaceful Kosova," says Clinton in his letter to Meidani.

Clinton says he has decided to travel to the region to meet first of all some of those who have mostly suffered from the ethnic cleansing in Kosova as well as to visit the U.S. troops.

He says he would very much welcome the possibility to meet President Meidani and President Gligorov, when he (Clinton) is in Skopje, as the leaders of the two states mostly affected by the conflict in Kosova and learn their thoughts on the future steps in the region. /led/lm/

[02] Albania's General Consulate opens in Bari

Albanian Foreign Minister Paskal Milo, present at the ceremony of inaugurating the Consulate, during the meeting with the President of the Puglia region, Prof. Distaso, discussed the project of the 8th Corridor, which will start precisely in Puglia.

As to the investments by Puglia entrepreneurs to Albania, Distaso guaranteed that "reaching the agreement on the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe will be a powerful encouragement also for the Puglia entrepreneurs to invest to Albania".

Milo said that opening this consulate is a clear political gesture which testifies to the will of both sides to intensify relations between them. /led/lm/

[03] Movement on Memaliaj road back to normal

MEMALIAJ, June 19 (ATA)-By H. Cani, The movement of vehicles and people on the national route near Memaliaj is no normal, the chief of the Tepelene police commissariat, Lieutenant-colonel Agron Jance, told ATA on Saturday evening.

He said the national road had been blocked by a group of miners of Memaliaj only for 15 minutes on Friday morning at 6:45.

The Memaliaj miners' hunger strike, which also blocked the road, has entered its fourth day and seem that the 23 strikes are not going to end it until the government abrogates the decision to close the mine.

The mine of Memaliaj is non-productive and as such has swallowed millions of dollars, especially in the last 10 years. The miners themselves admit this, but, considering the social wounds its closure will bring about for many families, insist on the rehabilitation of this mine.

In the meantime, the government has proposed a two-year training for the miners to end the strike. /led/lm/

[10] PD vendos tė rikthehet nė parlamentin shqiptar

TIRANE, 20 Qershor/ATSH-A.Haxhiu/.- Partia Demokratike shqiptare, pritet tė rikthehet sė shpejti nė Kuvend, pas mė shumė se njė viti bojkoti total tė legjislativit.

Vetė kryetari i PD-se, Sali Berisha, tha tė dielėn nė njė konferencė shtypi se do t'i kėrkojė kryesisė sė partisė, tė thėrresė mbledhjen e Kėshillit Kombėtar, i cili do tė vendosė pėrfundimisht rihyrjen e PD nė Kuvend.
