[02] Greek Red Cross helps in drinking water purification in Durres

According to the project that the Greek Red Cross representative George Jorgandas presented to the directors of water supply facilities of Durrės and Kruje districts, Greece will bring free of charge the amounts of chlorite needed for the purification of water.

Eight tons of hypochlorite, worth 2 million lek, have reached Korca city, and another amount has been sent to Durrės prefecture. /led/Na/xh/

[03] 1500 Kosovars have left Kukes through Morini

Some 1 500 Kosovars, mainly inhabitants close to the border and the commune of Prizren and Opoje, have left only in the past two days, said to ATA the chief of the police commissariat of Kukes, Ylber Duraku.

According to him, the movement of some deportees of Kosova has been made also with the approval of NATO military structures, which have taken under their control the commune of Prizren.

The Albanian Government voiced its concern on Monday for the impatience of the Kosovars to return to their homes. /led/xh/

[04] Kosova children will be treated by Albanian and Belgian psychologists

The chairman of the Belgian association "Handikap International" Frederick Fettweis told ATA that they have adopted all measures to set up a camp in Katund I Ri, in which 600 children from Kosova with psycho-physical problems and with traumas from the atrocities of war, will be treated.

According to the chairman of the Association of the Psychologists of Albania, Edmond Dragoti, the psychologists and the social workers from Belgium who have already arrived in Albania, and their colleagues in the University of Tirane, will work in that camp.

After the first contingent of 600 people, other children from Kosova with grave spiritual and psychical problems will also be treated in the camp in different terms of time. The aim is that through an intensive treatment the children be first relieved from their pains until they will finally be completely rehabilitated. /xh/

[05] Kosovars move toward Kukės enter Kosova

According to the Kukės prefecture spokesman, the number of the arrivals in Kukes from other districts of Albania has amounted to 1 938 and who have reached there through 233 vehicles in the past two days.

The Kosovars going to Kukes are mainly from Tirana. Only on Monday, the total of the arrivals registered was 412 out of a total of 523 Kosovars coming from Tirane so far.

Such a thing is motivated with their great will to turn back to their homes, despite the present danger of a disorganized process of their return. /led/Na/xh/

[06] President Meidani demands Albania's quicker integration into Europe

The President's press and information office stressed the special geo- strategic position of Albania, adding that "a quicker integration of Albania, without observing the membership criteria, would have a positive impact on all the region. Delays would increase the differences in development between the regional countries and those of the EU," said Albanian President.

The Albanian deputy Parliament Speaker, Namik Dokle, thanked the representatives of the Bundestag for the important decisions they have adopted in favour of the Kosova issue. During the meeting, they also treated questions of the parliamentary cooperation and general questions for the two countries. /led/xh/

[07] Some 350 wounded treated medically in hospital of Bajram Curri over past two months

The surgery ward with 25 beds has born the bulk, and in this direction they have also had the assistance of the Swiss Red Cross and the Ministry of Health of Albania, especially to airlift the gravely wounded, said Madani.

Over the past two months, fierce fighting has been waged between the KLA forces and those of the Serb army, especially in the zone of Koshare. The the injured from the KLA which took this zone under control at the beginning of April, have received the first medical aid in the civil hospital of Bajram Curri. /led/xh/

[08] Hungarian Foreign Minister to visit Albania on Wednesday

The press and information director in the Albanian Foreign Minister, told ATA that during the first day of his visit in Albania, Martonji will meet the Albanian Premier, Padeli Majko and other ministers of his government.

In he second day of his visit, the Hungarian Defence Minister will meet the President of the Republic, Rexhep Meidani, and the Parliament's Speaker, Skender Gjinushi. /lh/A.A/

[09] Any division of military command in Kosova is unacceptable - Gjinushi

Gjinushi stressed the stand of the Albanian factor in support of NATO and respect of its Unified Command around the military presence on the ground.

"Any division of the military command is unacceptable because fundamental problems would emerge which would lead to Kosova's partition," said Gjinushi.

Referring to the KLA mission as a form of the people's existence and resistance Gjinushi said that with NATO's military presence on the ground, the KLA will obey to NATO's authority. /dast/lm/

[10] NGO-s present the winter program for displaced Kosovars

Hushi told ATA that NGO-s presented the main points of the program where are presented all the measures to accommodate the refugees during winter.

Hushi asked the representatives of NGO that the project will be handed over within June 29, because it will be placed in the disposition of foreign donors.

The total number of Kosove deportees sheltered in Elbasan prefecture is estimated to be approximately 28 800 refugees. /dast/A.A/

OSCE officials told that the German forces dislocated in the Morine border point let these persons continue their way. According to her, KLA members in this area are registering all the persons entering Kosove.

[12] Three Kosovars wounded due to a mine blast

After the withdrawal of Serb forces and entrance of KFOR in Kosove, many Kosovars are passing Morine border without taking into consideration the risks.

Another Kosovar was wounded near the border on Tuesday, while three others were wounded on late Monday as they were passing the border. /dast/A.A/

[13] Release of Greek hostage requested

According to Ramize Bibos, head of these firms' Trade Unions, the protest is linked with the indignation at the abduction of the son of Greek owner Kristo Laliotis, as well as the concerns over the closure of the firms after this event.

On the same day, on behalf of the trade unions of the two firms, a petition has been addressed to the state senior officials, local authorities and the Delvine district police commissariat.

The 27 year-old citizen, Jorgos Laliotis, was kidnapped on June 7, 7 km from Sarande by three gunmen with masks. Two days ago, an anonymous call on his mobile phone asked owner Laliotis 500 million drachmas for the release of his son. /lh/lm/

[14] Children are afraid of returning to Kosova

A survey organised by the Non-Governmental Organisations active in Berat prefecture shows that from 1044 children questioned whether they liked to return to Kosova, 976 responded that they were afraid of returning to their homes.

The district neur.-psychologist doctors, proceeding from this phenomenon, are cooperating with the teachers and educators to conduct educational topics, games of impulsive character to free the children from stress and awaken the belief for a better life.

The Dutch foundation, "International Plan", has projected US$ 35 000 for activities for the Kosovar children in the Berat prefecture. /lh/lm/

[15] Wim Kok stresses intensification of partnership between Holland and Albania

"It is necessary to intensify the political and economic partnership between our countries at bilateral and multilateral level", the letter stresses.

The Dutch Prime Minister highly evaluated his meeting with President Meidani and the exchange of views on the political and humanitarian situation, due to the conflict in Kosova.

[16] Majko says Kosovar politicians have to go to Kosova

According to the spokesman of the Prime Minister, Majko said: "We have worked a great deal to put an end to the narrowly personal problems among the political factors in Kosova and are encouraging the concept of cohabitation with the Serb minority in Kosova".

Referring to the relations with Denmark, Majko stressed that "we consider significant the Danish presence in the Albanian economy and holding permanent contacts with you".

Rasmunssen evaluated Albania's role in the conflict in Kosova and in the process of establishing peace there.

He said that Denmark would offer full support for Albania's membership with the international organisations and for its association agreement with the EU.

"There will be no any kind of substantial assistance for Serbia for as long as Milosevic is in power. Denmark has provided its assistance for the peace process and will install in Kosova a contingent of Danish troops, " said Rasmunssen. /dast/lm/

[17] Majko says Albania aims to be mechanism for Kosova reconstruction

Majko said that "Albania aims to be a mechanism in rebuilding Kosova and creating possibilities for the economic development of the countries of the region so that they avoid causes which bring about conflicts," the spokesman told ATA.

Danish Foreign Minister expressed the evaluation of the Danish government and people for the way Albania has coped with the situation created with the arrival of the Kosova refugees and assured Majko of the Danish support for Albania also in the future.

"We intend to uplift the economic level between our two countries at the level of political relations," said Majko, who shared with Minister Petersen the need of holding contacts between the two countries. /dast/lm/

[18] OSCE Presence closes Field Office in Bajram Curri

The decision to close the Field Office has been taken with considerable regret, given the valuable border monitoring function it has performed since its establishment in March 1998, and the additional work it has been carrying out with the local Community, most recently during the refugee emergency, as the only permanent international presence in this part of Northeast of Albania.

Much as the OSCE would have wished to see the Field Office continue performing these roles, the security of its staff members, both local and international, must be its paramount concern. The latest incident, coming in the wake of numerous others in which the personnel and property of OSCE and other international organisations have been directly targeted, demonstrates that the situation is no longer tenable. /dast/lm/
