[01] TNT explosion damages lawyer's apartment doorTIRANA, March 14 (ATA) - By Th. Thanasi: A TNT explosion blasted early on Sunday at the apartment door of a lawyer in Tirana damaging only the door. There are no reports on casualties.Police spokesman said to ATA that the blast occurred at 04.00. a.m. at the entrance of Mark Pellumbi damaging his apartment door and that of his neighbour. Police are investigating on the motives of the explosion and perpetrators. /ake/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] Forces' build-up in border lineBAJRAM CURRI, March 13 (ATA) - By Riza Hoxha: Further aggravation of the situation in the border area of the Tropoja district, the northern zone of Albania, has forced the militaries to reinforce its defence with forces and armaments.Reservists and militaries have been deployed along the border defence line and are ready at any moments, Ali Gjoni chief of the local mobilisation center said to ATA on Sunday. He added that other reservists had been deployed to back up the defence line forces. /pas/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[03] State finances construction of aqueductsFIER, March 14 (ATA) - By H. Koçi: Albanian state has financed the construction and instalment of aqueducts in eight communes of the Fier district within a year, Ilir Dano, secretary general of the prefecture of Fier said to ATA on Sunday.He said that the state budget had accorded a fund worth 7 million leks for the aqueducts including water pipelines in four communes. Dano said that investments would continue this year according to a plan, which aimed at supplying those villages running short of water for many years. He said funds for water supply in rural areas were estimated at 50 percent of the investments by the state budget for the infrastructure. /pas/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[04] Damages to quays hinder handling of shipsVLORE, March 14 (ATA) - By H. Koçi: Heavy damage caused to the main quay in the Vlora port suspended for four days the handling of ships there.The quay was repaired only last Saturday when some 160 cubic meters of material was placed in an unusual cleft. The main quay of the port of Vlora built up in 1935 is in a poor maintenance state. The port is included in a rehabilitation program financed by the European Community worth some million dollars. A project has been worked out and a bid launched recently selected the British specialised firm "Gib" for its rehabilitation. The works are expected to start next week. Other works have been carried out in the port such as those for the extension of the quay financed by the European Union Cross Border program. /pas/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[05] Serb court sentences Albanians to over 88 years of prisonPRISHTINA, March 14 - ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reported that 24 Albanians from Rahovec had been sentenced to over 88 years of prison by a Serb court in Prizren.The Albanians charged of terrorism have been seized by Serb forces in an operation launched last summer in Rahovec. Since the start of the year, the Serb courts have ruled long sentences estimated at 500 years of prison. Some 1.200 Albanians were expected to face trial soon. /pta/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[06] Fresh influx of Kosova people arrives in TropojaBAJRAM CURRI, March 13 (ATA) - By Riza Hoxha: Increase of violence by the Serb army in Kosova villages near the border area between Albania and Kosova has forced Kosova people to flee war zone and go to Tropoja, Albania.In the last two days, 19 people, mainly women, children and elderly people, crossed the border in Zherke village, Tropoje despite the danger in that area, Muharrem Gjyriqi, chief of local police commissariat said to ATA on Saturday. Fighting, which erupted recently, forced the inhabitants of Tropoja area and officials of the local government to be ready and tackle with fresh influx of people from Kosova. The Kosova people were helped by the border police and settled among their relatives in Golaj village, Has district. Tropoja is the district, which faced the first influx of refugees from Kosova last June where at least 17 thousand people crossed the border within a few days. The number of the people accommodated there is almost one thousand. /pas/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[07] Pilot census be launched prior to general census in 2001DURRES, March 14 (ATA) - By G. Kabashi: Durres district is thought to hold a preliminary census, which will serve as a test before the general nationwide census scheduled for 2001.Elida Prifti, chief of the statistic office, said to ATA on Sunday that a representative group from the Council of Europe (CoE) and Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) met recently with officials of the local government to express their readiness in preparations for a possible pilot census thought to be launched in 2000. The CoE and INSTAT officials stressed the necessity to establish the whereabouts of families. Hajno: Albania and Greece are urging promotion of cooperation between inter border police in Saranda and Corfu areas in a working meeting late on Saturday in Saranda, south of Albania.Chief of border police for Saranda Krenar Muço said that the Greek side represented by captain Nikola Nikolato considered positive and efficacious the cooperation between Albanian and Greek border police in the area. Sources of the police commissariat said to ATA on Sunday that they dealt with problems, which could arise after the approval of the Albanian law on seizing navigation means under 20 NRT. The renewal of an agreement on joint patrolling in the Ioannian Sea was a major topic in the talks. The six-month existing agreement on joint sea patrolling will expire soon, Edmond Kule, chief of local police said to ATA, adding that the renewal would be done by the order ministries of both countries. The agreement was implemented in August '98 while the cooperation between Albanian and Greek border police was institutionalized in spring '97 when the then respective ministers of order signed a protocol of cooperation between border police in Athens. /pas/ak/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[09] Workshop on legislative base in field of civil emergency be heldTIRANA, March 14 (ATA) - By E. Koraqi: The international conference "On legislation and planning of civil emergencies" is due to be held on 15-17 March in the Palace of Congresses in Tirana.Sources of the Public Relation Department in the Albanian Defence Ministry reported to ATA that this is the first activity of the Individual Program of Partnership between Albania and NATO for 1999. This workshop, held under the care of NATO, aims at helping the legislative basis in the field of civil emergencies. Attending this activity, according to the sources from the Defence Ministry, will be deputies, government officials, representatives of NGO-s and others. /pas/mt/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[10] Work resumes in mine of MemaliajMEMALIAJ, March 14 (ATA) - By H. Cani: The work resumed in the mine of Memaliaj (Southern Albania) after the repair of a breakdown that occurred in the ventilation tour of sector no. 4.According to the director of this mine, Ndricim Hajnaj, the work, suspended a month ago by 90 per cent, has already resumed now. Hanaj said that a group of experts and senior officials from the ministry are expected to closely treat the problems as a whole. The inhabitants of Memaliaj and the nearby villages earn their living through this mine, but the obsolete technology and the lack of a powerful investor have lowered to the maximum its productivity. /pas/mt/ Albanian Telegraphic Agency[11] More than 3000 inhabitants displaced from three villages, KosovaPRISHTINA, March 14 (ATA) - More than 3000 inhabitants from the villages of Biçek, Kovaçec and Dubravë have been displaced recently from their homes and were accommodated mainly in, but also in Ferizaj, meanwhile that more than 250 persons have been sheltered in the high school "Skenderbeu," Kosova Information Center reported, referring to sources from the Kosova Democratic League in the ground.Massive displacements of the Albanian inhabitants have been also from the village of Debellde of Vitise. Some 500 inhabitants have left their homes and were accommodated mainly in the neighbour villages of Macedonia, sources from KDL say.
