[01] ALBANIAN PRESIDENT MEETS REPRESENTATIVES OF PARLIAMENTARY PARTY OF KOSOVA

According to the press and information office of the President, Meidani was interested in the situation in Kosova and pointed out the work of the new leading structures for the restoration and institutional and economic strengthening of Albania.

We would like to enable the solution of the Kosova problem, through institutional means, respecting the will of the Albanians there, said Meidani, based on the international framework and in a peaceful way. The relations of good friendship and dialogue are the means of our political pragmatism towards this aim, without avoiding the exchanges of opinions and contacts with institutions of ethnic Albanians outside the country. Albania will make progress with dignity in the international relations, said Meidani, and peace and stability of the region mean the new realities which respect the will of Albanians wherever they live.

Bytyci pointed out that the new political reality in Albania will contribute to the stability and prosperity of the country and will be a greater guarantee in the realization of the aspirations of the Albanians in Kosova.

During the meeting they discussed about different problems of the political life, of communications, to approach the stands for problems which worry the Albanians, as well as for the contribution of Albania in the fair solution of the Kosova question. /a.ke/kled/mt/sh/

[02] PRESIDENT OF ALBANIA MET WITH WORLD BEKTASHIAN HEAD

Haxhi Dede Reshat Bardhi wished the President "Force, health and strength to overcome the difficulties and for the future of the country."

The people have turned their eyes to you and the love and sincerity in your eyes is confidence and hope for all the Albanians, said his holiness to the President meidani. He assured the president of the support of Bektashians not only of Albania but also of the U.S. and the whole world.

Expressing his thanks for the warm words and messages, Mr Meidani highlighted the will of God as the greatest support for the high post he is given.

Then, the president said that his messages for peace, understanding, against violence and division, for the progress of the country are the same with those messages that the sacred representatives are conveying to the people in these difficult moments.

He appreciated the role of religion in the spiritual and moral purity of the people and especially of the younger generation and expressed his desire for the joint and continuous efforts of all religious communities for peace and understanding.

During the very warm meeting, opinions were exchanged on the problems and difficulties the country is passing and the joint efforts for better days. ake/xh

[03] MEETING OF PREFECT WITH MONITORING MISSIONARIES OF EUROPEAN COMMUNITY

The group of monitors led by Mr Ton de Vaan took special interest in the situation of the public order and the resumption of the productive activity.

Mr Merkuri said that although special measures envisaged by the Interior Minister have not been implemented completely, the forces of order are manifesting a greater sense of confidence in the fight against ill-doers.

The productive activity will start again only after peace and order is restored. In the mean time, the production of the firm "Rekord Albania" and of some big ready-made garments enterprises in which a great number of people are empoloyed, has been suspended. He also said that the activity of the traders has considerably fallen since the beginning of unrest, and this has also been a consequence of the lower purchasing power of the consumers.

The monitoring missionaries said they would prepare within set deadlines reports for the Council of Europe on the situation in that region of Albania on the basis of which the most emergent aid for that prefecture will be determined. ake/xh

[04] KILLER DETAINED, FOUR THIEVES ARRESTED IN KAVAJE

On the same day, in the beach of Golem, by 15:30, the police forces detained Arian Vasil Premci, 20, Lorenc Gori Pellumbi, 20, Ilir Cuman Seferaj, 36 and Besnik Hasan Lakasi, 20, all from Tirana, who in collaboration with one another attempted to loot the vehicle "Audi", belonging to Petrit Veseli. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

Rilindja Demokratike reports "Meidani embraced the killers." The paper carries the editorial "The installed government builds the grovellers." With regard to the meeting of the SP leading committee, the paper reports "Fatos Nano reinforces the chair of the chairman." The paper also reports the Albanian Journalists' League protests against the illegal discharge from work of the Director General of the Albanian Radio Television."

Republika paper reports: "Scandal in the bank: Specialized office for the laundry of the money. Its staff reports only to the President," as well as "The Socialists leave the posts." The paper also publishes the editorial "Officials, these eternal sufferers." Quoting the Director of the Tirana Police Department, Pashk Tusha, the paper reports "There is corruption in police."

Rilindja reports that the commando brigade has been awarded by the President of the Republic with the "Golden Medal of the Eagle" and cites Meidani as saying "They protected the honor and glory of the Military Flag of the unit." The paper also reports that the Attorney of Tirana has issued an order of arrest against the pretender to the Albania's royal throne, Leka Zogu.

Albania reports "Irregularities of the press in the favour of the government." Under the headline "Second day of the new government," the paper reports "46 killed and 20 injured."

Koha Jone reports "Cyclone of anti-smuggling in Albania," and carries the editorial "The power or the parties."

Dita reports that the youths of the Democratic Party during the meeting of their National Council have been punished. The paper also reports "once again for the North." In the special heading, the paper reports "Violence on the culture" Materials and psychology."

Gazeta Shqiptare reports "Anti-smuggling in attack," as well as "The committee of Vlore "We do not forget the money. " The paper carries the editorial "Capital punishment? Here it is why it should remain in force." /kei/mt/k

[06] STRUCTURE OF VLORE TOWN HALL IN COMPLETE EFFICIENCE

Sources from the town hall told ATA that the officials are working to approve the independent budget which is one of the main directions of the work of the town hall. This budget, which includes the period until March 1998, is actually in the stage of drafting for all the main sectors of the town.

After the resignation several months ago of the former mayor, Gezim Zilja, this town hall is led by two deputy mayors, elected by consensus, respectively of the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

[07] EXPERTS OF ANTI-CRIME PRESENT IN GJIROKASTER

According to these sources, the forces will take first the state vehicles, set free the public objects, which have become private property of irresponsible persons.

Meanwhile it is reported that these persons ask from the police forces of the district not to be penally prosecuted, as condition to voluntarily return the state vehicles and set the buildings free. This was categorically refused by the police bodies.

Police sources also report that the border check point of Kakavije and the normality of work in it will be one of the first operations to be carried out by the special forces of police.

The report for the arrival of the special forces has created a climate of security, being also guarantee for the movement in the national road and other secondary roads. /a.ke/kei/mt/k

[08] TIRANA POLICE DETAIN AUTHORS OF PENAL ACTS

On Saturday afternoon was arrested due to the operation of police forces of commissariat no 1 Arben Bashkim Sefa, 38, who only three hours ago killed by fire weapons his uncle Ilir Ramazan Sefa.

During the operation were also arrested and escorted to the police commissariat two other persons, suspected to have opened fire against the police vehicle in this operation.

The police forces of commissariat no 3 have arrested Muhamet Qazim Hasa, 35, who have injured by fire weapons Gezim Gjepali from Shijak. He was arrested by the special forces of unit 88 in Tirana.

The police commissariat no 4, during an operation organized by the order and criminal police, enabled the detention and arrest of Durim Islam Allamani, 17, as very wanted person for murders by fire weapons.

The police arrested on Saturday Alfred Hamdi Skenderi, 26, inhabitant in Laprake, because he has fired very often in the quarter he lives with his machine gun, kept without permission.

On the same day, 21 vehicles have been blocked, which had violated the rules of the road code. /a.ke/kei/mt/k
