[02] LETTER OF ARBNORI ADDRESSED TO PRESIDENT OF THE WEU PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

TIRANA, MARCH 16 (ATA) - The press and information office of the People's Assembly of Albania reports that Parliament Speaker Pjeter Arbnori has addressed a letter to the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union (WEU), Louis Maria de Puig, which says:

"I was informed that the Permanent Committee of the WEU Assembly has recommended WEU to prepare an operation to restore peace in Albania. I would like to thank you for this recommendation, which, if approved by the WEU member countries, will be an historic decision.

This decion will help restore constituonal order in Albania. In fact, Albania does not ask WEU to do any fighting, but just to restore an evident force in sea ports, in airport and in the capital of Albania, which would serve as a reliable stabilizer. They must also support the Albanian authorities in their efforts to restore order and gather the arms from people. I also think that WEU will have the possibility to play an important role by assisting an European country and safeguarding peace and stability in our troubled region. Hoping that this recommendation will be adopted," writes Mr Arbnori at the end of his letter to Mr Maria de Puig. ssh/xh
